The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

December 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

Whatever your sun sign, this forecast will help you choose how to best use each month’s astrological energies! Events are most powerful on the dates listed. However, their influence will be active for at least several days before and after. All dates and times are in the U.S. eastern time zone.

While everyone is affected by these global transits, you will be most powerfully impacted when moving planets activate natal planets and other sensitive points in your birth chart.

VOID-OF-COURSE MOONS

It's best to avoid starting important new projects or making major purchases during these times. "Business as usual" is the best strategy for these periods, which occur when the Moon has made its last major Ptolemaic aspect but has not yet moved into the next sign.

12/1, 10:45 am – 12/2, 1:46 am, Aquarius
12/3,  9:15 pm – 12/4, 1:25 pm, Pisces
12/6, 7:44 - 9:45 pm, Aries
12/8, 4:36 pm – 12/9, 1:54 am, Taurus
12/10, 5:24 pm – 12/11, 2:35 am, Gemini
12/12, 1:01 pm – 12/13, 1:41 am, Cancer
12/14, 5:28 pm – 12/15, 1:24 am, Leo
12/16, 7:46 pm – 12/17, 3:37 am, Virgo
12/19, 5:30 - 9:24 am, Libra
12/21, 11:58 am - 6:38 pm, Scorpio
12/24, 12:30 - 6:14 am, Sagittarius
12/26, 6:26 - 6:57 pm, Capricorn
12/29, 4:20 - 7:44 am, Aquarius
12/31, 1:34 - 7:29 pm, Pisces

THE STORY SO FAR: As December opens, all planets are direct.

12/1. With Venus conjunct Jupiter, it's one of the luckiest days of the year for finance and relationships! And, since they're joining in Capricorn, whatever you initiate or amplify at this time should have good staying power.
You may find yourself thinking more creatively than usual in these and other areas, with the inspirational possibilities opened by today's Sun-Neptune quintile

12/3. Learning about healing, or sharing information about it, is supported by today's Mercury-Chiron sextile. Giving or receiving mentoring would also be timely.

12/5. The greater your receptivity, the more insights you'll receive during the lightning storm of intuitive flashes created by today's Mercury-Uranus square. Don't reject any of these ideas out of hand -- even if they initially seem crazy -- but give those paradigm-shifting possibilities a second and third look instead.
It's also a high-energy day, with two paragons of vitality -- the Sun and Mars -- conjunct in the no-holds-barred sign of Sagittarius. The more physically active you can be, the better!

12/6. The durable Saturn-Uranus opposition will form the foundation for three T-squares this month, a challenging aspect pattern made up of two opposing planets (180° apart) forming squares (90° angles) to a third. Mercury forms the first T-SQUARE, which peaks today and is strong the 3rd thru the 8th. This could feel a bit like a mini Mercury Retrograde, with potential difficulties around communication and short-range travel. However, you can make good use of this energy by giving serious thought to creative ways of integrating new paradigms into existing structures. Don't make this a completely left-brain exercise, however: with Mercury sextile Neptune, your best insights may come when you relax and invite answers in from your own omniscient Source.

12/7. Venus enters Aquarius today thru 1/3, a great time to bring a fresh, experimental energy to your relationships and creativity. Group activities are also supported.
Venus’ entry into Aquarius also shifts the balance of power in the sky, from a 3-3 standoff between
STELLIUMs in Capricorn and Aquarius to equally balanced three-planet Stelliums in Sagittarius and Aquarius thru 12/12.

12/8. Chiron receives a sextile from the Sun today, amplifying the energy of healing, wisdom-sharing and maverick action.

12/9. Chiron is now receiving a double-hit of energy, with Mars adding its sextile to the Sun’s. This makes it an exceptionally good time to work with the themes described on 12/8.

12/10. The Sun squares Uranus today, anticipating December's second T-square on 12/12. If your energy feels a bit erratic today, you can ameliorate this aspect’s destabilizing effect with a vigorous workout or by opening yourself to intuitive flashes of wisdom. (Click here for a writing meditation that may enhance your receptivity.)

12/12. Lordy Mama, do we have a lot going on today!
          December’s second
T-SQUARE peaks today, and is strongest the 6th thru the 16th. This time it’s the Sagittarian Sun squaring the Saturn-Uranus opposition. But that's not the whole story: Mars is trailing less than 2° behind the Sun, and will make its own exact T-square with Saturn and Uranus on the 14th (strongest the 6th thru the 18th). With the Sun and Mars virtually identical in their T-square timing, we really have to discuss them as a pair.
December's earlier T-square (see 12/6) was easier to think through, since Mercury was at the apex. It will be harder to be rational about this one, though, since the one absent element is air (intellect). The Sun and Mars are about being and action, not thought, and they’re in over-the-top Sagittarius. Plus, Mars’ square to Uranus is like the oozing antique dynamite on Lost: you never know when it might go off!
The downside possibilities are obvious enough: paradigm shift (Uranus) meets tradition (Saturn), which could lead to conflict or violence. But you can use the same set-up to catch an intuitive flash (Uranus) and use your supercharged power of initiation (Mars and the Sun in Sagittarius) to immediately start putting a new structure or organization into place (Saturn).

          December's
FULL MOON is also unusually intense. It's exact at 11:37 a.m. US Eastern time at 21°02' Gemini. Full Moons are known for their emotional intensity, and this heightened energy could have an especially scattering effect in Gemini. (Of course, any Gemini Full Moon is a good time to take stock of how you’re gathering and disseminating information, and to make appropriate adjustments.)
But what makes this Full Moon so strong are the aspects. The opposing Moon and Sun line up at 90° angles to the Saturn-Uranus opposition. This creates a
GRAND CROSS -- Astrology's most challenging aspect pattern! Add in Mars conjunct the Sun and opposing the Moon, Venus’ sesquiquadrates (135° angles) to both the Moon and Saturn, and the trines from the Moon to Neptune and Chiron, and things could get seriously messy.
If not used consciously, this potentially discordant Full Moon energy could boil over conflicts between the forces of change and the guardians of the status quo. This could result in damaged relationships and fresh wounds (figurative or literal), with the whole affair shrouded in a fog of confusion or deceit.
Of course, you can choose a more harmonious outcome. By becoming receptive and inviting Spirit wisdom into your heart, you can intuitively feel the proper balance between what has come before and what it must evolve into in order to serve the greatest good of all. The flashes of insight that resonate in your deepest core will help you see as opportunities any relationship conflicts that arise. Dealing with these issues with compassion and an open mind can bring about healing in your present relationships, and bring closure to old childhood wounds.
The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is "Dancing couples in a harvest festival." Draw a line between one of these couples and a circle around them, and you’ve got an astrological opposition (180°). Thus, this image uncannily describes the current Full Moon sky, which is dominated by the "dancing couples" Sun-Moon and Saturn-Uranus.

This symbol’s celebratory image certainly suits the high emotional energy of a Full Moon, and its uplifting vibe supports its upside potential. This Full Moon reminds us of the increasingly challenging times we live in, yet exhorts us to celebrate anyway! Joy, it reminds us, is less about our physical situation and more about our state of mind.
As if that wasn't enough for one day, Mercury is also busy. He starts by entering Capricorn through 12/31, supporting productive business communication and results-oriented thinking. He then conjuncts Pluto, encouraging deep thought, psychological exploration and occult learning.
          Mercury forms a
STELLIUM (three or more planets) as it joins Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn, and ends the Sagittarius Stellium that began 11/21.

12/13. Today's Sun-Neptune sextile is good for meditation and divinely inspired creativity, as well as appreciation of the Muse’s gifts!

12/14. As mentioned in the 12/12 entry, the Mars-Saturn-Uranus T-SQUARE is exact today and strong the 6th through the 18th.

12/15. Today's Mars-Saturn square is part of the Mars-Saturn-Uranus T-square described on 12/12.

12/16. Today's sextile between Mars and Neptune is ideal for taking action to fulfill your dreams. It also supports physical activities that incorporate subtle energy, such as tai chi, chi gung or yoga. You could also engage in meditation techniques that fill the body with divine light, such as the Divine Saturation Snap Meditation.
There's also a Mercury-Uranus quintile, ideal for catching intuitive flashes that fuel your creative expression. (You can actively solicit these with this "divine dictation" exercise.)

12/21. Happy WINTER SOLSTICE, featuring the longest night of the year! The Sun enters Capricorn today through 1/19 (adding a fourth planet to the Capricorn Stellium), a good period for productivity and accomplishment. With this sign change, there are four planets each in Capricorn and Aquarius.
Artists can enhance their productivity by taking advantage of today's Venus-Saturn biquintile

12/22. On this first night of Hanukkah, you can use the Sun-Pluto conjunction to make this your personal “Embrace Transformation Day.” It's also a great time for research, occult practice or diving into the psychological depths!

12/23. Today's Venus-Chiron conjunction could bring up old childhood wounds in a current relationship. It's also ideal for giving or receiving mentoring.

12/24. Good news for you last-minute Christmas shoppers: today's Mercury-Uranus sextile may grant you the flash of inspiration you need to make those perfect 11th hour gift choices!

12/25. Merry Christmas! A WEDGE aspect pattern peaks today (active the 23rd thru the 26th), featuring Mercury trining Saturn and sextiling Uranus, as well as -- you guessed it -- Saturn opposing Uranus. It's a good time to think about how to integrate the best of the old and the new.

12/26. Happy first day of Kwanzaa! Mercury, in Capricorn and trining Saturn, gets a double hit of seriousness. Consider using it to delve into important thoughts, or for tasks requiring long-term mental focus.
If relationship challenges should arise (you didn't give her a mop for Christmas, did you?), today's Venus-Saturn quincunx suggests that an adjustment in your position might help to restore harmony.

12/27. Mars enters Capricorn today thru 2/4, stimulating productivity and helping the fires of accomplishment burn steady and long. There are now five planets in Capricorn (six if you count the fleeting Moon, which changes signs every 2-1/2 days). This creates a GRAND STELLIUM: five or more planets in the same sign. (Along with Mars, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars and Pluto are also in the Sign of the Mountain Goat.)
          December's
NEW MOON occurs at 7:22 a.m. US Eastern time at 6°07’ Capricorn. At the simplest level, a Capricorn New Moon is a good time for new beginnings in work, career or worldly accomplishment.
This particular new beginning is made especially powerful, for starters, by the Grand Stellium discussed in the previous paragraph. But the strongest focal point of this initiatory power is the imminent Mars-Pluto conjunction (exact on 12/28), just 5-6° away from the Moon-Sun conjunction. Together, Mars and Pluto bathe the New Moon in an extraordinarily potent energy field ideal for new beginnings.
But the juice doesn't stop there! The New Moon also aspects the other two "God planets” in addition to Pluto, with a 45° semi-square to Neptune and a 72° quintile to Uranus. (Collectively, the outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto radiate the high-vibration transpersonal energy associated with divine awakening, bliss and transformational power.)
So, at this New Moon, don't limit yourself to just kicking off your new projects under your own steam. Think shamanically. Consciously invoke whatever forces you work with (or just call upon the creative flow of the universe) to empower them. As long as you have no intention of doing harm, and are sure to include the karma-free safety clause (“This or something better now manifests for the greatest good of all") you can feel free to call upon the powers-that-be with everything you’ve got!
With this New Moon so saturated by God-planet energy, it seems entirely appropriate that its Sabian Symbol is, "A veiled prophet speaks, seized by the power of a god." Those who already channel don't need me to explain this symbol to them, while those of you who feel inwardly prompted to share some important information with the world should consider whether, under this New Moon, it's now time to do so.
As for everyone else, it's well known that actions speak louder than words. So initiate your new projects with the full power of the universe behind you.
And what about the veil? Well, no one has to know what magic you're working behind the curtain!
With so much going on, one could easily miss a more subtle aspect happening today: Venus conjunct Neptune. This is a superb energy for creative expression, since Neptune embodies divinely inspired creativity and Venus represents personal creativity. (Neptune is the higher octave of Venus.) It’s also a great energy for deepening your union with Spirit, and connecting with the Spirit force in your fellow physical beings.

12/28. Mars makes conjunction to Pluto today. As I said in the 12/27 entry, the combined energy of these two planets creates an extraordinarily potent energy field for new beginnings. And since they’re coming together in Capricorn -- the sign of longevity -- you may feel blessed with the endurance of the Energizer Bunny as you carry your project forward. (Do try to start something positive under this energy -- or at least get in a good workout -- lest Mars and Pluto turn to their dark side expression of anger and violent confrontation.)

12/31. Mercury joins Jupiter in the sky today, supporting positive thoughts, voracious learning and abundant communication. (Be careful not to overdo it!) This energy also supports wordsmiths getting their work out to the public, since Mercury rules writing and Jupiter rules publishing!
Finally, the year ends with a step backward as
SATURN GOES RETROGRADE through May 16. During this period, reflect on how well your old structures are serving you, and which ones are worth carrying forward in this time of increasingly rapid paradigm shift!

It's best to avoid starting important new projects or making major purchases during these times. "Business as usual" is the best strategy for these periods, which occur when the Moon has made its last major Ptolemaic aspect but has not yet moved into the next sign.

11/26, 7:33 am – 11/27, 12:15 am, Sagittarius
11/28, 7:54 pm – 11/29, 12:49 pm, Capricorn

THE STORY SO FAR: As November opens, two planets are retrograde: Neptune (thru 11/2) and Uranus (thru 11/27).

11/1 (Sat). A WEDGE, which began 10/26 and ends 11/4, peaks right about now. This aspect pattern features the applying Uranus-Saturn opposition being energized by a trine and sextile from Mars. This has the effect of making this world-shaking opposition, which has already helped bring us the global financial crisis, even stronger. With Mars in Scorpio, the sign of profound transformation, consider using these days to empower whatever death and rebirth cycles need to occur in your own life.
Mercury also biquintiles Uranus today, creating a magical connection between your rational mind and sparks of intuitive insight. Be sure to make some quiet time for receiving them!

11/2 (Sun). NEPTUNE GOES DIRECT today at 21°28' Aquarius. Whenever any planet goes direct, it’s a good time to move from reflection on its themes to acting on them. So take stock of the dreams, visions, desire for higher states of consciousness and ideas for divinely inspired creativity that have been floating around in your mind for the last five months, and consider which ones it’s time to make real!

11/3 (Mon). Poor Venus, creating a T-SQUARE with Saturn and Uranus the day before their opposition becomes exact! Since she is the primary money planet, this T-square, peaking today and active 10/30-11/7, increases the odds that the global financial crisis will worsen around this time. Your finances could also come under stress, so if the recent plunging stock market indices haven’t already caused you to batten down your financial hatches, you would be wise to do so at the first opportunity. Relationships may also receive significant challenge from this transit. If you find that any of your important relationships are not on solid footing, consider either a paradigm shift that will stabilize them or, if appropriate, a parting of the ways. Creative types may find themselves inspired to venture in bold new directions with their work.

11/4 (Tue). What’s the most powerful astrological event of 2008? Most astrologers would agree that there are only two serious contenders. Some would give the nod to Pluto’s entry into Capricorn (1/25 and 11/26), but my choice is the SATURN-URANUS OPPOSITION, which first comes exact today.
It's extraordinarily synchronistic that this opposition occurs on the day of the US presidential election! As I said in my September 2008 article, where my astrological analysis of the candidates’ charts seemed to indicate an Obama victory, this planetary lineup indicates an extraordinary "wild card factor." I've heard a lot of ideas about how this unpredictable energy could play out, including an attempt on Obama's life and the election being stolen through vote tampering. I pray that none of these dark possibilities will manifest, but instead focus on a much simpler and more straightforward interpretation: Saturn represents McCain (the old way of doing things) and Uranus stands for Obama (revolutionary change). And Uranus usually triumphs in these situations.
This Saturn-Uranus opposition will be exact five times, from now through most of 2010. This period of time will be characterized by revolutionary transformation, with outmoded or corrupted structures (such as the derivatives-riddled global economic system) being repaired or replaced.
On a personal level, it’s essential to recognize all the structures (Saturn) in your life that have outlived their usefulness. It doesn’t matter if “it’s always been done this way” – if there’s a better way to do it, it’s time to embrace a paradigm shift (Uranus). Perhaps something has served you well until now -- a relationship, a way of thinking, a residence, or a job -- but is no longer a good fit. It hangs poorly on you no matter how much you alter it. This means that it’s time to release it, and leave a void for Spirit to fill with something better. Tune in to your intuitive flashes – Uranus’ method of communication – and follow them whenever you can.
For more on how the Saturn-Uranus opposition will be affecting the world at large, please see my new article on the subject.
As if all that wasn't enough, there are four more Election Day events to talk about -- ensuring that this will be my longest write-up ever for a single day!
Two of these transits are essentially saying the same thing. Since Pluto and Scorpio are astrological synonyms, the fact that Mercury both sextiles Pluto and enters Scorpio today is the sort of thing that makes astrologers sit up and take notice. The most obvious interpretations are "communicating change," "a voice for change" or "a change in thinking." in addition, Mercury's entry into Scorpio, where it joins Mars and the Sun, creates a STELLIUM (three or more planets in the same sign) in the Sign of Transformation. That's an awful lot of Scorpio energy on election day -- which candidate do you think best fits this archetype?
More troubling is today's Mars-Neptune square. This could be the aspect that caused some astrologers to worry about Obama surviving until Inauguration Day, since it could be interpreted as violence (Mars) coming from a hidden place (Neptune). [Chillingly, shortly after I wrote that sentence, I checked Google’s news page and read about the arrest of two white supremacists who were plotting to assassinate Obama. Let’s hope that’s as far as this thought-form goes!] The Mars-Neptune square is also a warning to election officials to be watchful for hidden enemies (Neptune) taking aggressive action (Mars) to hijack the election, possibly through electronic manipulation of the vote count . A less sinister interpretation would be snafus and confusion encountered by some excited (and possibly irritated) voters at their polling places. I suggest you use this aspect to take forceful action (Mars) to stand up for your ideals (Neptune) -- in other words, vote!

11/5 (Wed). After the intensity of yesterday's election, today's Venus-Neptune sextile suggests that it might be nice to relax and indulge in some mindless escapism. Of course, this combination is also great for creative inspiration, meditation and making a soul-deep connection with another being.

11/7 (Fri). Change is good, but it can also be messy. With the Scorpio Sun squaring Chiron, it's a good time to do some tidying up and organizing!

11/8 (Sat). Jupiter’s quintile to Mercury can give a creative boost to writing, lecturing, teaching and other mental modes of expression.

11/10 (Mon). The Sun sextiles Jupiter and trines Uranus today. Read the 11/11 entry to see how these aspects fit into the cradle pattern peaking tomorrow.

11/11 (Tue). The CRADLE aspect pattern that peaked on October 29 (described here) has returned -- sort of. The pseudo-sequel which peaks today and lasts the 8th thru 13th is still a four-planet aspect pattern, and is still anchored by the Saturn-Uranus opposition. The rest of the pattern, a daisy chain of 60-degree sextiles, is also present, but the Sun has now stepped into the place left vacant by Mars. Thus the sextiles are now Saturn-Sun, Sun-Jupiter and Jupiter-Uranus, while the built-in trines feature Sun-Uranus and Jupiter-Saturn.
The interpretations I gave in my 10/29 entry still hold: flowing support for a new business venture, receiving a powerful intuitive flash and working to manifest its vision in the physical world, embarking on an occult spiritual path that draws on an old tradition to deliver new insights, and disciplining yourself to do the deep psychological work that could lead to a major breakthrough. However, with the Saturn-Uranus opposition now passed its initial peak, and the Sun contributing somewhat less energy than Mars, this Cradle doesn't have quite the oomph of the original. But it’s still considerably more juice than is available most days of the year, so it's still a wave worth riding!

11/12 (Wed). It's the kind of transit beloved by entrepreneurs: Venus conjuncting Pluto on her way into Capricorn (where she will stay through 12/7). This is because Venus is a money planet, Pluto rules great wealth, and Capricorn is the sign of business. Suffice it to say that there's some good deal-making energy on hand! Important relationships may also experience some serious transformational energy; if so, take an honest look at whether the relationships being spotlighted are built for the long haul.

11/13 (Thu). November's FULL MOON occurs at 2:16 a.m. at 21° Taurus. Full Moons are times to take stock of how you're doing in a specific field of life. In this case, shine a spotlight on finances, income, possessions, self-esteem and whether you're taking enough downtime to qualify as a "human being" (as opposed to an endlessly busy "human doing").
This is an especially powerful Full Moon because of the extraordinary number of aspects it receives. These include trines from Saturn and Jupiter, oppositions from Mercury and Mars, squares from Neptune and Chiron and a sextile from Uranus! This obviously creates a very complex energy matrix, but here are the parts I consider most important: to build the most solid and fortunate base for this Full Moon’s Taurean themes, be wary of those who might mislead or manipulate you and actively listen for the guidance of your intuitive flashes.
The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is "White dove flying over troubled waters." Rudhyar* interprets this as "the spiritual inspiration that comes to the individual in the overcoming of crisis," and summarizes it as "a reward to the faithful." This Sabian Symbol seems to acknowledge our current economic challenges while urging us to maintain our faith. I find it especially comforting that this symbol accompanies the first lunation following the US presidential election!
With the Sun square Neptune, you might want to take a fresh listen to the old Who song "Won't Get Fooled Again". Deception is always a possibility with hard aspects from Neptune, along with potential loss of vitality. However, with a little effort, you can also tap this energy for immersion into divine bliss and creative inspiration. If you're not up to it, turn it over to Spirit!
The Saturn-Uranus opposition and Pluto's entry into Capricorn aren't the only games in town this year: today's Jupiter-Uranus sextile may be third in importance,  but it's still a major player. This aspect comes exact for the third and final time today (it was also exact on 3/28 and 5/21), and radiates its greatest power 10/27 through 11/29. Spiritual transformation, paradigm shifts in world view, a changing of the political guard, and higher wisdom received by intuitive flash are just a few possible outcomes that can be generated by this aspect.

11/14 (Fri). With Mercury square Chiron, it's a good time for editing and fine-tuning your writing and other mental activities. You may also feel called to consult with a mentor or share your own wisdom -- just try not to be too argumentative!

11/16 (Sun). The Saturn-Uranus opposition, which we'll be dealing with for the next two years, is an inherently unstable configuration. However, Jupiter is doing what it can to calm things down. The WEDGE it's making with Saturn and Uranus comes exact today, with Jupiter trining Saturn and sextile Uranus. Jupiter radiates a measure of hope and optimism into the unsettling changes that are occurring, and its current placement in Capricorn lends some measure of stability to the goings-on.
But when is a Wedge more than a Wedge? When it's also a
CRADLE! That's right, Mercury has slipped into the position formerly occupied by Mars and the Sun to reconstitute our Cradle configuration one last time. Because Mercury is moving so fast, this rendition only has a three-day run: the 15th through the 18th. The interpretation for this cradle does not differ significantly from the last one, so you can revisit my 11/11 entry and substitute Mercury for the Sun. The man difference is an uptick in the curiosity factor and an increased desire to communicate the insights you've gained. And, with Mercury trining Uranus and sextiling both Jupiter and Saturn, it really is an extraordinary time for both learning and communicating!
Mars enters Sagittarius today through 12/27, firing up the archetypal energies of exploration, intercultural immersion, higher learning and spiritual questing.

11/17 (Mon). Mercury, still buzzing from its “Wedgie”, squares Neptune today. This can increase the likelihood of unclear or deceptive communication, but can also help you learn how to overcome mental fuzziness by tuning in directly to the Omniscient Source for your answers.

11/18 (Tue). Artistic inspiration is boosted by today's Venus-Uranus quintile -- just don't be surprised if you inspired to move in a new creative direction!

11/21 (Fri). Jupiter trines Saturn today, resulting in a business-friendly vibe and adding some juice to the Wedge discussed on 11/16.
The Sun enters Sagittarius today through 12/21. The Sagittarian journey has several levels: Gypsy, student, teacher, philosopher and guru. Which one are you at as the Sun radiates this energy? (For more Sagittarian keywords, revisit the last paragraph of the 11/16 entry.)

The sun's sign change creates a
STELLIUM (three or more planets in the same sign), making Sagittarius the strongest sign in the sky -- but only through 11/26.

11/23 (Sun). Mercury enters Sagittarius through 12/12, boosting the aforementioned stellium to four planets.

11/24 (Mon). The Sun and Mercury both quintile Saturn today, creating a strong energy for the manifestation of creativity.

11/25 (Tue). Mercury and the Sun join in the sky today, amplifying the energy of learning and communicating.

11/26 (Wed). In my 11/4 entry, I identified the Saturn-Uranus opposition as the most powerful astrological event of the year. I still stand by that, but now wish to discuss an energy shift whose impact will be felt long after the Saturn-Uranus opposition is a distant memory: PLUTO’S NO-GOING-BACK ENTRY INTO CAPRICORN. He made an initial foray into Capricorn earlier this year (1/25 through 6/14) before retrograding back in the Sagittarius, but now he's back to stay -- for the next 15 years!
I wrote an in-depth article on Pluto's entry into Capricorn back in January. As I said then, this is a time when the dirty secrets of big business will be exposed (can you say “global financial crisis”?), and it will also be make-or-break time for the global community to deal with the world's environmental crisis. This critical sign change sets a world-changing chain of events into motion that extends well beyond 2008.
Of course, we will all be part of this unprecedented change. It will be critical for each of us to revise or release all structures that do not serve the highest need of all. We will need to have courage and faith as many of our old familiar structures crumble around us.
Then again, if a condemned building is standing on a prime piece of real estate, it has to be torn down before a new and better building can go up. Keep this metaphor in mind as we are all asked to release many of our existing ways of life, even when we’re not sure exactly what will be coming to replace them. It will be a challenging process, but one which will provide many rewards along the way. And it must be done in order for humanity to rediscover how to live harmoniously and sustainably in this fragile ecosystem that we all call home.
Pluto's sign change creates a temporary balance in the sky energy thru 12/7, with three planets each in Sagittarius and Capricorn.

11/27 (Thu). As if to put a punctuation mark on Pluto's entry into Capricorn, the only remaining retrograde planet in the sky -- Uranus -- goes direct today, on Thanksgiving day in the US. I hear it saying, "Now is the time to listen attentively to your flashes of intuitive guidance. Now is the time to embrace the radical paradigm shifts that will break us away from the selfish, toxic and self-destructive course we have charted for so long. Now is the time to break away from the soul-killing strictures of conformity, to awaken to what you really are, to do you came to Earth to do.”
If enough people do that, then we will have something to be extraordinarily thankful for!

            November’s
NEW MOON occurs at 12:54 p.m. at 6° Sagittarius -- a great time for new beginnings in the areas of foreign travel, higher education, spiritual studies, philosophical inquiry and being generally more adventurous. This New Moon is tightly conjunct Mercury and Mars, reinforcing the ideas of mental inquiry and powerful beginnings.
This New Moon’s Sabian Symbol is "A game of cricket." Rudhyar* gives this symbol’s general meaning as, "The development of skill in group situations testing collective goals," and summarizes it as "group solidarity.” For me, this symbol colors the meaning of the New Moon in two ways: that one should try to do any new undertakings in the fields mentioned above as part of a group, and that those undertakings should be done with an eye toward how they will help others and not just yourself.

11/28 (Fri). As Venus sextiles Uranus, be open to the intuitive flashes that will guide your relationships and your creativity in exciting new directions.
Today's Mercury-Mars conjunction, in the larger-than-life sign of Sagittarius, is a great energy under which to forcefully communicate your message. Be careful that you don't succumb to hyperbole, however, or get stuck on the receiving end of an impassioned harangue from a dogmatic fanatic!

11/29 (Sat). Thankfully, this unusually intense month ends with some very pleasant energies. Mercury and Mars both quintile Neptune, enabling easy reception of the creative flow. And Venus trines Saturn, broadcasting a stable energy under which recently challenged relationships can regroup and establish a new foundation. This is also a solid energy for business and financial opportunities!

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

October 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

THE STORY SO FAR: As October opens, four planets are retrograde: Uranus (thru 11/27), Neptune (thru 11/2), Chiron (thru 10/25) and Mercury (thru 10/15). Ideally, important new projects should not be started until Mercury goes direct.

10/1 (Wed). Spirit has charged up the Intuitive Flash Machine – are you making yourself receptive enough to receive its bursts of insight? The quincunx connecting Mercury (rational mind) and Uranus (Divine Mind) requires your openness before it can give you its “Eureka!” moments. And you may have to be willing to make a significant adjustment in your life in order to implement the guidance you receive.

10/2 (Thu). Since Mars’ entry into Libra on 8/19, it has been energizing relationships and creativity. Now it’s about to exit the Sign of the Scales, but it’s going out with a bang! Today’s sextile to Pluto can empower relationships and creativity, as well as support physical transformation and exercise programs.

10/4 (Sat). Mars enters Scorpio today thru 11/16. The Warrior is strong here – Mars rules Scorpio – and this is a good period for new beginnings, fighting for a worthy cause (like the presidential candidate you’re supporting) or supporting a transformation in your physical body (diet, exercise, weight change, cleansing, etc.).
Mercury also trines Chiron today, an easy-flowing time for editing, fine-tuning your thoughts, or giving or receiving mentorship.

10/5 (Sun). It’s a good day to inject some fresh, positive energy into your important relationships (Venus sextile Jupiter), or let your creativity flow (the more deep and uninhibited, the better!). At the same time, three minor but challenging aspects put some tension in the air, so be prepared for a bump or two.

10/6 (Mon). “I am not Superman.” Keep reminding yourself of this with today’s Sun-Jupiter square, since your temporary perception of your abilities may exceed what you can actually do! At the same time, it’s a fabulous energizer – especially in the creative and social arenas – as long as you don’t go overboard.
You may want to put some of today’s abundant energy into writing, learning, teaching or other mentally focused activities (Sun conjunct Mercury). Mercury’s square to Jupiter amps up these energies even more, and the creatively charged quintile between Mars and Jupiter is the icing on the cake. Bottom line: both raw energy and creativity are powerfully amplified today, so be sure to put them to good use!

10/7 (Tue). With Venus sextiling Saturn and squaring Chiron, it’s a great day to fine-tune relationships that are worth the long-term investment of your energy. Deep, heartfelt communication is well-supported, especially if you each acknowledge that the other has insights worth sharing.

10/8 (Wed). Chiron continues front and center today, quincunxing Saturn and trining the Sun. Consider seeking a mentor’s wisdom, especially if it will help you work through an old childhood wound!
We also have our first aspect pattern of the month, running Oct. 4-9 and peaking today. It’s a three-planet
WEDGE based on the applying Saturn-Uranus opposition, with Venus sextiling Saturn and trining Uranus. (Saturn and Uranus will make an exact opposition – the first of five – on Nov. 4, the day of the U.S. presidential election!) Saturn-Uranus is about the tension between old traditional structures (Saturn) and revolutionary, paradigm-shifting new ideas (Uranus). Since Venus represents relationships and creativity, it’s a good time to be mindful of that balance in these areas: keeping the best of the old while refreshing things with a jolt of innovation. (Hold in highest regard those innovative ideas that you receive via intuitive flash!)

10/9 (Thu). Creativity gets a boost with today’s Sun-Pluto quintile. (Mozart had half a dozen quintiles in his natal chart!) So set aside some today to channel your Muse.

10/10 (Fri). The Universe’s creative support continues with today’s Venus-Uranus trine. Dare to break out of your old rut and follow any flashes of inspiration that lead in new directions. This also applies to relationships: it will be easier than usual to receive inner divine guidance that will provide the insights you need.

10/11 (Sat). Then again, today’s aspect can cloud the relationship picture with confusion and fog. With Venus square Neptune, it can be hard to figure out what to do – if you’re going about it rationally, anyway. The greater your connection with Spirit and your inner guidance, the more you’ll be able to feel on an intuitive level how to work with any relational challenges that are now arising. (Keep in mind that part of Neptune’s job is to dissolve what no longer serves your highest need – in this case, entire relationships or just unhealthy patterns of relating.) If your human relationships are too hard to figure out right now, under this transit you can always express yourself creatively or turn to Spirit for connection – you’re always unconditionally welcome there!

10/12 (Sun). If you’re feeling unusually jittery or nervous, it may be attributable to today’s Sun-Uranus quincunx. A good workout should burn off some of that energetic overload, or you could sit down to open to your inner world (thus making the adjustment demanded by the quincunx) and open yourself to an especially intense meditation! Finally, stay open to intuitive flashes, while understanding that following them may initiate a positive change in your status quo.

10/14 (Tue). The October FULL MOON lines up at 4:02 pm Eastern time at 21°16’ Aries. As with all Full Moons, ask how “full-filled” you are in the areas of life that resonate with the Moon’s sign. How are you doing with the Arean qualities of warriorship, new starts, and spontaneity? How well are you balancing Self vs. Other? Any anger management issues (which the emotionally charged Full Moon might aggravate)? Pay attention to whatever’s going on, and make any needed adjustments.
Neptune, tightly trining the Full Moon, invites you to become more of a Dan Millman-style peaceful warrior, allowing Spirit to guide your assertiveness from within. (This would be a great night to watch the Peaceful Warrior movie!) This energy can also help you get into gear with your divinely inspired creations.
The Sabian Symbol (22° Aries) for this Full Moon is “The Gate to the Garden of All Fulfilled Desires.” Rudhyar* gives it the keynote, “Abundance made possible by human togetherness and cooperation,” and summarizes it as “cosmic optimism.” So maybe this gives you something else you can start: a habit of including others in your goals instead of trying to make everything happen on your own. Individual goal-setting is good, but nothing beats the power of a mastermind group!

10/15 (Wed). You can breathe a sigh of relief – Mercury Retrograde ends today, as of 4:06 pm US Eastern time. The Trickster goes direct at 7°34’ Libra. You now have a green light (or at least the absence of a red one) to initiate all those projects you’ve been reflecting on since Mercury went into reverse on 9/24.

10/18 (Sat). There’s a magic aura of creativity and divine connection in the air, courtesy of today’s Sun-Uranus biquintile. It’s subtle, though, so you’ll have to make an effort to tune in.

10/21 (Tue). Ready to make a change? That’s one thing Sun-Pluto sextiles are good for, along with deeper immersion into the occult, research, sacred sexuality, and all paths of inner knowledge. Take your pick!

10/22 (Wed). The Sun enters Scorpio today thru 11/21. It’s a good time for everything listed on 10/21, as well as shamanism and anything involving shared resources. (That could range from a committed sexual relationship to joint ventures to financial investments – although given the dicey US economic situation, you probably need to exercise the highest level of caution with the latter!)

10/25 (Sat). Chiron, retrograde for the last five months, goes direct today. Retrogrades are good for reflecting on a planet’s core themes – which, in Chiron’s case, are childhood wounds, healing, mentoring and fine-tuning details. Consider whether it’s now time to implement whatever insights you’ve gained in any of these areas.

10/26 (Sun). Should we dub Oct. 26 Motormouth Day? With Mercury (communication) in a challenging square to Jupiter (expansion), it could be a day to make sure you’re not overdoing your verbiage! Properly focused, however, this energy could juice up writing, teaching, learning and other mental activities.
Mercury is also trine Chiron, allowing you to use this day’s hyped-up energy to perfect and fine-tune the projects you already have underway. And the Venus-Neptune quintile opens the flow of creativity and divine connection for those who can open themselves to receive it.

10/27 (Mon). How about a bold dive into the depths? It’s the perfect activity for today’s Mars-Jupiter sextile. See the 10/21 & 10/22 entries for ways in which you can initiate the Scorpionic energy Mars currently inhabits.

10/28 (Tue). [New Moon forecast corrected 10/24/08] October’s NEW MOON kicks off a new lunar cycle at 7:13 pm Eastern time at 5°54’ Scorpio. New Moons are times for new beginnings; in Scorpio, new starts in the areas of transformation, research, occult practice, investments and soul-level blending are ideal.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is "The Gold Rush tears men away from their native soil." Rudhyar's* keynote is "The passionate search for new values which, at any level, promise a more abundant life," summarized as "avidity." While this idea can be taken in a less savory direction as unrestrained greed and money lust, the current object lesson of the global financial meltdown shows the horrific end result of that path. A more positive focus for this New Moon could be new values based not on solipsistic self-interest, but on generating abundance in which all can participate. Examples could include Spirit-saturated prayers for the welfare of all beings, and the sharing of one's wealth (which can be defined in terms of money, wisdom, love, personal energy and other things of value) in a more equitable way. It also emphasizes the importance of embracing new sustainable paradigms which honor the sacredness of all life, since our current dysfunctional ones are leading us to environmental devastation of unimaginable proportions.

With Mercury now direct, it’s repeating some of the transits it recently made. Today is such a case with its quincunx to Uranus; see the 10/1 Mercury quincunx Uranus description for tips on how to use it.

10/29 (Wed). A four-planet aspect pattern called a CRADLE peaks today, and is strong 10/25 thru 11/1. It’s anchored by the applying Saturn-Uranus opposition, now nearly exact. The rest of the pattern is a string of 60-degree sextiles: Saturn-Mars, Mars-Jupiter and Jupiter-Uranus. There are also two trines built in: Mars-Uranus and Jupiter-Saturn. The upshot of all this is that every planet has a direct line of communication with every other planet in the Cradle, which is primarily mutable and in feminine Earth and Water signs.
So what does all this Astrologese mean? Any four-planet pattern presents a wide spectrum of possibilities. The ones that occur to me include flowing support for a bold new business venture, receiving a powerful intuitive flash and working to manifest its vision in the physical world, embarking on an occult spiritual path that draws on an old tradition to deliver new insights, and disciplining yourself to do the deep psychological work that could lead to a major breakthrough. Do any of these ideas resonate for you?

10/30 (Thu). Don’t just write today – let the writing write itself. With Mercury trine Neptune, the channels for writing, speaking and intuitive knowledge-gathering are open wide! And, with Mars sextile Saturn, you’ll have the drive to crystallize your intangible inspirations into concrete form.

10/31 (Fri). With bold Mars trine chaotic Uranus, the little demons roaming your neighborhood this Halloween night may be a bit more prone to tricks than treats. This aspect is also good for immediately translating intuitive flashes into physical action. Speaking of physical action, any excess nervous energy you feel can be moderated by a good sweaty workout!

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

September 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

9/1, 5:02 - 7:46 am (Libra)
9/3, 1:10 - 4:03 pm (Scorpio)
9/5, 11:46 am – 9/6, 3:12 am (Sagittarius)
9/8, 12:43 - 3:46 pm (Capricorn)
9/10, 9:16 am – 9/11, 3:21 am (Aquarius)
9/13, 9:20 am - 12:06 pm (Pisces)
9/15, 3:04 - 5:41 pm (Aries)
9/17, 6:27 - 8:58 pm (Taurus)
9/19, 6:52 - 11:18 pm (Gemini)
9/22, 1:05 - 1:50 am (Cancer)
9/23, 11:00 pm – 9/24, 5:15 am (Leo)
9/26, 7:21 - 9:54 am (Virgo)
9/28, 1:31 - 4:07 pm (Libra)
9/30, 9:48 pm - 10/1, 12:27 am (Scorpio)

9/1 (Mon). The LIBRA STELLIUM that started on 8/31 continues thru 10/3, enhancing the energies of balance, harmony, peace, beauty, relationship, socializing, creativity and love.

9/3 (Wed). A Sun-Saturn conjunction says that it’s time to get serious. With this aspect, vitality is most powerfully strengthened by hard work, discipline and productivity. These activities are usually the best way to lift yourself out of the funkiness and melancholy that can accompany this transit; taking some “hermit time” can also be effective.

9/4 (Thu). Today’s Sun-Jupiter trine is the perfect antidote to the heaviness of yesterday’s Sun-Saturn conjunction. Let Jupiter’s expansive, buoyant, uplifting energy inspire you with a happier vibe!

9/7 (Sun). By now (all planets within a 3° orb), the world is feeling the effects  of the impending TRIPLE CONJUNCTION of Venus, Mars and Mercury in Libra. This trio of personal planets will strongly affect each other through the 17th. This period can be great for creativity and relationships due to the Venus-Mars conjunction, and Mercury’s presence can powerfully enhance communication and expression of creativity (especially the written and verbal kind). Also watch for enhanced libido and a tendency toward abundant communication.
Excessive aggression or overextending yourself can be stimulated by today’s Mars-Jupiter square. You may feel like Superman, but remember that you are still only human! (That said, you can still get a heck of a lot done under this transit!)

9/8 (Mon). This is an ultra-busy day, with five significant astrological events!
            For starters, we have
TWO PLANETS – JUPITER AND PLUTO – GOING DIRECT ON THE SAME DAY! Jupiter (retrograde since 5/9) changes direction at 12°32' Capricorn, while Pluto (retrograde since 4/2) stations direct at 28°29' Sagittarius. When planets go retrograde, it signals a time to turn inward and reflect on how its archetypal energies are operating in your life. Once they go direct again, it’s time to put the wisdom you’ve gained into action!
Thus, Jupiter direct signals a time for new beginnings in life philosophy, higher education, spiritual quests and politics. Pluto direct supports initiation in the areas of psychology, the occult, research, detective work, committed romantic relationships and all types of major transformation. These direct motions will be most significant for you if they aspect a sensitive point in your natal chart by conjunction, opposition or square.
Mercury is busy today, conjuncting Mars and squaring Jupiter. Mental activity is highly stimulated, and there can be a seamless flow from thought to action.
Finally, Jupiter trines Saturn. When the two social planets connect so easily – especially in earth signs – the principles of expansion and contraction balance, stability is enhanced, and it’s a good time for “taking care of business.”

9/9 (Tue). Relationship and creativity get the high profile treatment due to today’s Venus-Jupiter square, but be aware that things may seem exaggerated beyond what they really are. Let some time pass to check whether reality matches today’s perceptions!

9/11 (Thu). Venus and Mars are conjunct today – see the 9/7 entry for more information.

9/12 (Fri). The Sun opposing Uranus is a great opportunity for individuation within relationships. If you’re not getting as good as you’re giving, then this energy can help you stand up for a more equitable energy exchange. If you’ve already achieved that, then this aspect can be a wake-up call to use your special gifts and talents to help others.

9/14 (Sun). Dazed and confused? Could be, with today’s Sun-Neptune quincunx. Then again, you could make the adjustment necessary to connect more powerfully with Spirit and your higher creativity!
Mercury and Venus, part of the triple conjunction described on 9/7, conjoin today.

9/15 (Mon). September’s FULL MOON occurs at 5:13 am Eastern time at 23° Pisces. Contemplate how “full-filled” you are with your spiritual unity and divinely inspired creativity, and also honestly address whether you need to deal with any addictive behaviors around excessive negative escapism (alcohol, drugs, TV, internet, food, sex, etc.).
This Full Moon is conjunct Uranus, so also be open to intuitive flashes that may inspire you, and ask whether your adjustments in any of the above areas would be better served by an abrupt paradigm shift rather than a gradual transition. Also ponder whether your creativity and/or spirituality can be of greater service to the collective, rather than just serving your individual needs.
            The
Sabian Symbol* for this Full Moon is, “A ‘materializing’ medium giving a séance.” Rudhyar interprets this as “The ability to give of one’s own vital energy to substantiate one’s conscious ideals or unconscious desires,” and gives it the keyword “substantiation”. This would seem to reinforce the idea of serving the greater good with your unique talents, since a materializing medium uses part of their own life force to help bring into form something that will benefit someone else.

9/16-17 (Tue-Wed). The Venus-Mars-Mercury triple conjunction that really kicked in a week and a half ago ends its period of greatest power tomorrow, but goes out with a bang! Two of its members make aspects to two outer planets today and tomorrow: Venus quincunxes Uranus today, and tomorrow Mercury also quincunxes Uranus while Venus trines Neptune. So be receptive to the intuitive flash and creative flow that will inspire your creative projects or relationships, and don’t resist your intuition even if its guidance is awkward to implement.

9/19 (Fri). Act with extra caution and deliberation today, as challenging aspects between Mars and Uranus (including today’s quincunx) can lead to accidents and other off-kiltering events. Perhaps you should stay home and write – today’s Mercury-Neptune trine should be fantastic for channeling intuitive wisdom or divinely inspired creativity! (You may find my article on how to do this to be helpful.)

9/20 (Sat). It’s a good (if challenging!) day to embrace transformation as the Sun squares Pluto. Watch out for power struggles, and be sure that you’re using the force of your own will for the highest good of all.

9/21 (Sun). With Libran Mars trine Neptune, your ability to express divinely inspired creativity should be especially strong. And remember that creativity isn’t just “The Arts” (music, drama, dance, writing, etc.) – it’s taking any two or more pre-existing things in any area of life and putting them together in a new way. So many of us had our creativity conditioned out of us as kids – if yours is slumbering, resolve to reawaken it today!

9/22 (Mon). With all this recent action in Libra, it’s about time the Sun showed up for the party! The Sun enters the Sign of the Scales today thru 10/22, heralding the Fall Equinox and adding a major hit of solar vitality to Libra's archetypal energies. (For a refresher on these, see the 9/1 entry.)
Venus (also in Libra) sextiles Pluto today, broadcasting an energy that can be used anywhere along the spectrum from wanton and indiscriminate lust to profound soul-blending between committed partners. Creativity is also empowered by this aspect.

9/23 (Tue). Mercury and Mars finally achieve conjunction today, over a week after being outpaced by their recent triple conjunction partner Venus. However, since Venus and Libra (the sign all three still occupy) are very similar energies, this aspect still qualifies for the 9/7 interpretation. (Hope you’re not getting tired of it!)

9/24 (Wed). MERCURY RETROGRADE (abbreviated “MRx”) is back for more trickster mischief! It starts backpedaling today at 3:16 am at 22°50' Libra, and goes direct again on 10/15 at 4:06 pm Eastern time at 7°3' Libra. This one should be especially interesting because of the numerous aspects Mercury makes as it stations -- not to mention the fact that its retrograde starts under a void-of-course Moon! I expect this MRx to be especially forceful (Mars conjunction). And, in the world at large, it has the potential to sow a greater than usual amount of confusion (Neptune trine) and disruption (Uranus quincunx). However, your experience will be much more positive if you use those same Neptune and Uranus aspects to be guided by the flow and flash of your intuitive guidance.
MRx is always associated with challenges in communication, travel and technology, so make sure you’re understood, triple-check your travel itineraries and make sure your critical computer data is backed up! If at all possible, try to delay starting any important new projects until Mercury goes direct again. Finally, don’t forget the positive uses of MRx: it’s a perfect time for mental reflection, contemplation and planning.

9/29 (Mon). September’s last significant astrological event is a beginning: a NEW MOON at 4:12 am Eastern time at 6°33' Libra. New Moons are customarily the ideal time for new beginnings, and in Libra the obvious life areas for this are relationships and creative expression. However, a new beginning while Mercury is retrograde can be tricky! I suggest that you go ahead and start something under this New Moon, but in an experimental spirit. Observe whether it goes as planned, or if the MRE (Mercury Retrograde Effect) throws you a curve ball or two.
            The
Sabian Symbol* for this New Moon is “A woman feeding chickens and protecting them from the hawks.” Rudhyar’s keynote, with the theme “guardianship,” is “The need to face the antagonism of ‘powers of darkness’ as one attempts to feed the mind of as yet frightened and helpless apprentices.”
For most, these “apprentices” will not be other people, but rather the emerging potentialities within themselves. So consider using this Mercury Retrograde New Moon to reflect on the whatever new consciousness is emerging within you. What “powers of darkness” – be they people or forces outside yourself, or your own self-sabotaging thought patterns – does this vulnerable new consciousness need to be protected from? What relationships – already extant or yet to be formed – will nurture it? And how can you use your creative abilities to help it emerge?

BONUS -- Sun Sign Forecasts for September!

Longer versions of the forecasts which appeared in the September
Aquarius magazine and website

ARIES

Relationships and creativity are a major focus this month, Aries – especially the 7th thru 17th, when you’ll be feeling especially gregarious and inspired! You may feel like you could conquer the world on the 7th, but remember that you’re not really Superman! The 11th is an especially good day for romance with your sweetheart, or finding one if the position is currently open. You may be unusually volatile or accident-prone around the 19th, which can be ameliorated by acting immediately on your intuitive flashes. Easy connection with Spirit, or your Muse, beckons around the 21st, while a mental focus – learning, writing, and exchanging ideas – is strong around the 23rd.

TAURUS

The details of daily work, a focus on health, and service to others are strong themes this month, Taurus. Your mind will also be more active than usual, especially the 7th thru 17th. In fact, this is a month when the transition from concept to action should flow much more easily than usual! Watch for a reality check in the romance department around the 3rd, and an abundance of energy around the 9th. You’ll have extra juice to get things started around the 11th, as well as heightened relationship opportunities. Mentally demanding activities such as learning, writing and speaking get strong support around the 14th. Tune into higher realms, through meditation or minding your intuitive flashes, in the days around the 16th thru 20th. Finally, relationships and creativity get an extra boost from the 24th on.

GEMINI

You Geminis love variety, and the Universe is giving you plenty of ways to focus this month’s cosmic forces! You could begin a new romance, or add new spark to an existing one. You could focus on children – yours or others’ – or give your own Inner Child more play time. Maybe you’re craving the spotlight so that you can share your naturally quick wit or other performance skills, perhaps at an open mic or karaoke night. Or maybe you just need some R&R time to chill out from your usual smorgasbord of activities. Mark the days around the 8th and 23rd as high-energy days, and those around the 14th as especially good for relationships and creativity. The days around the 17th thru 19th are optimal for connecting with Spirit and your own intuitive flashes, while the 9/24 thru 10/15 Mercury Retrograde period is better suited for contemplation and planning than starting new projects.

CANCER

You should feel right at home this month, Cancer, since the Universe is focusing its energies for your sign right in your natural domain of the home and the deep psyche. And we’re not talking about a “Home Alone” scenario, either – the energies of relationship and communication within your abode are unusually strong. This may be business as usual if you’re accustomed to a full house, but it’s an invitation to “play Libra” and welcome others into your living space if you tend to isolate yourself there. Psychological work is also a valid use of these energies, but not alone – if there are issues requiring resolution, breakthroughs are more likely to come through interacting with others. Mark the 10th as a “business as usual” day (no important new beginnings), whereas the start of the month and the 29th or 30th are optimal times for kicking off new projects.

LEO

For you, Leo, September is a marvelously mental month. You’ll have strong energetic support for learning, teaching, writing, speaking and all other left brain expressions. It’s likely that a whole smorgasbord of interesting topics and activities will beckon, so allow yourself to develop curiosity virtuosity! Make sure any financial decisions have a sound foundation around the 3rd, and enjoy the easy flow of strong, positive energy around the 4th. Be open to paradigm shifts, or the next step in your individuation, around the 12th. If you feel lost or confused around the 14th, gain clarity by choosing to connect with Spirit. That divine connection (and creative inspiration) will come easier around the 20th, while it will be time to embrace the challenge of transformation around the 20th.

VIRGO

Virgos don’t always have the world’s strongest self-esteem. You tend to be a humble lot who gain satisfaction from helping others, which is a wonderful thing. Too often, however, you base your opinion of yourself on how others see you. This month, however, the Universe is giving you the chance to jump-start your self-esteem and stride out into the world with more power and confidence! This same energy can also support you in accumulating money or other tangible resources. You’ll feel especially powerful around the 8th – don’t let it go to your head! – while creative and interpersonal energies get a boost around the 14th. Take any intuitive flashes that hit around the 17th seriously, even if they challenge the status quo, and spend extra time reflecting and planning (rather than putting new plans into motion) between 9/24 and 10/15.

LIBRA

This month, Libra, you have the opportunity to feel something of how the other half lives – that “other half” being your opposite and complementary sign, Aries. This month’s astrological energies are asking you to try on the Ram’s qualities of assertiveness, natural leadership, quick decisiveness and – toughest of all – putting yourself first! (Try getting down on all fours, snorting, pawing the carpet, and butting your head against the mirror to get in the mood.) This Arean exercise will be easiest around the 11th, though you’ll also feel plenty energized around the 9th. You’ll be especially communicative and mentally sharp around the 14th, while a waterfall of creativity and divine connection will want to pour through you around the 17th. The 22nd will be another power day, while creative inspiration will be strong again around the 24th.

SCORPIO

It’s a good thing that Scorpios are naturally attracted to mysteries and hidden places, because this month’s energies are asking you to focus on places that don’t exist in the physical world! Merging into union with Source – which can be accessed through numerous meditation techniques, or via Scorpio’s natural fascination with occult practices – is one great way to use this energy. Another is to make yourself a “hollow reed” (or, if you prefer, a PVC pipe) and become a passive channel for whatever information or creativity Spirit chooses to flow through you. (These spiritual and creative activities will be most powerfully supported around the 13th, 19th, 21st and 28th.) On a more mundane level, you’ll feel strong physical vitality around the 7th, 13th and 20th, and can target the 9th or later as a great time to begin new projects that you’ve been planning over the last five months.

SAGITTARIUS

While a major part of your overall focus for 2008 has been on adding to your value – which could mean making money, adding possessions or building up your self-esteem – September’s focus is more specifically about goal-setting and group involvement. For many Sagittarians, the problem is often not so much setting goals in the first place as burdening yourself with too many! The same can apply to group involvement: if you’ve spread yourself too thin, weed out the ones that aren’t specifically moving you toward your goals. Your September power days are tightly clustered between the 4th and the 9th, an intensely energized six-day window which may also include challenges in the areas of leadership, communication and relationship. The 8th, or soon afterwards, is a good time to put new projects into gear that you’ve been planning over the last four months.

CAPRICORN

You’re an exception this month, Capricorn – while all the other signs except Cancer are having to stretch outside their comfort zones, you’re being empowered in your areas of natural strength! The positive attributes of the Capricorn archetype are accomplishment, responsibility, a strong work ethic and a desire to have your good work acknowledged. The universe is giving you plenty of juice for all this, but at the same time watch that it doesn’t amp up the less desirable Capricornian attributes: greed, emotional coldness, a workaholic nature, and an attitude of the ends justifying the means. You’ll enjoy extra vitality around the 3rd, and will be blessed by the angels of luck and good fortune around the 8th.

AQUARIUS

Aquarius, this month’s energies could make you feel more like a Sagittarian! The emphasis is on higher-level learning or teaching, world travel (or exposure to other philosophies and ways of life), your religious or philosophical path, and a general sense of adventurousness. Plan for high-energy activities around the 3rd and 12th, “lucky day” energy around the 8th, and a willingness to make adjustments in how you relate, communicate and act the 16th thru 19th. Finally, the creative juices will be strong around the 20th and 28th.

PISCES

Pisces, you are by nature a poet, a mystic and a dreamer – as needful of non-physical reality as earthly sustenance. And this month holds an opportunity that should suit you – the chance to dive deep into the mysteries! They could be occult (Tarot, numerology, astrology, etc.), psychological (new insights into unresolved inner issues) or worldly (deep research or detective work). It could even be the mystery of how to blend even more completely with your beloved. You’ll feel especially energized around the 4th and 21st, but watch for a challenging period the 7th thru 9th. Life should flow more smoothly the 17th thru 21st, with a nice creative boost around the 24th. On or after the 8th, move forward with the plans you’ve been concocting for the last four months!

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

August 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

8/2, 3-5 pm (Virgo)
8/4, 8:16 - 10:29 pm (Libra)
8/7, 5:02 - 7:28 am (Scorpio)
8/9, 5:03 - 7:12 pm (Sagittarius)
8/12, 5:05 - 7:43 am (Capricorn)
8/14, 1:09 - 6:58 pm (Aquarius)
8/17, 1:15 - 3:48 am (Pisces)
8/19, 7:42 - 10:11 am (Aries)
8/21, 12:54 - 2:39 pm (Taurus)
8/23, 5:20 am - 5:50 pm (Gemini)
8/25, 5:53 - 8:20 pm (Cancer)
8/27, 8:14 - 10:52 pm (Leo)
8/29, 11:44 pm – 8/30, 2:20 am (Virgo)

8/1 (Fri). August kicks off in appropriately dramatic fashion with a SOLAR ECLIPSE at 9°31' Leo. This supercharged NEW MOON occurs at 6:12 am US Eastern time.
For starters, any Leo New Moon is a good time for starting activities relating to new romance, creative expression, leadership, rest & relaxation and/or calculated risk-taking. Mercury is also huddling up with the Moon and Sun,  making it a great time to add learning and/or the sharing of information into this initiatory mix. The fact that this New Moon is also an eclipse significantly amplifies the power of any new beginnings you make around this time.
The Sabian Symbol for this eclipse is, “Early morning dew sparkles and sunlight floods the field. / The exalted feeling that rises within the soul of the individual who has successfully passed through the long night which has tested his strength and his faith.”* I know many people who have been sorely tested lately. If you are one of them, you’ll have the power of the universe behind you when you affirm that this eclipse day is the beginning of a brighter future!
Every eclipse leaves behind a “hot spot” where it occurs. Therefore, moving planets that conjunct, square or oppose 9°31' Leo may trigger significant life events, especially during the next year.
But there’s more going on today than just the eclipse. Virgoan Mars quincunx Chiron encourages the focusing of energy into work involving detail and precision. And the Leo
STELLIUM that started on July 26 remains active thru 8/6.

8/2 (Sat). Feeling the urge to express yourself, but having trouble finding an outlet? You can credit today’s quincunx of Leonine Mercury and Jupiter. You may need to do some creative tweaking to join these energies, but once you do – watch out!

8/3 (Sun). They may be subtle, but creative inspirations are likely to be striking with today’s Mercury-Uranus biquintile. Catch the flashes!

8/4 (Mon). Depending on how far you’ve progressed on your Wisdom Journey, today’s Mercury-Chiron opposition is wonderful for either counseling with a mentor or proclaiming the wisdom you’ve already gained to the world. Dust off your soapbox!

8/5 (Tue). Choose to use today’s Venus-Pluto trine to empower the deepening of your relationships and to energize your creativity. The power flows easily!

8/6 (Wed). There are two planets who are not making an aspect today – Saturn and Pluto – but everyone else is interacting! Here’s the lowdown on this very busy day:
The aspect to pay the most attention to is a Mars-Uranus opposition. Often dubbed the “accident twins,” these planets can set the stage for shocking and unexpected events when they make hard angles such as this one. Be especially careful on the days around this aspect, and avoid unnecessary risks. A positive use of this energy is to be receptive to your intuitive guidance (Uranus) and take immediate action (Mars) when you receive it.
Next most powerful is Neptune opposing Mercury in Leo. One challenging manifestation could be communications designed to deceive or obfuscate, possibly accompanied by overblown histrionics. A more positive use would be to call upon your divine inspiration to fuel your writing, speaking or other creative endeavors.
Mercury is also involved in a quincunx with Uranus, reflecting intuitive wisdom trying to break through into a resistant mind. A second quincunx links the Sun and Jupiter, which could cause you to “party a little too hearty” or otherwise overextend yourself. This aspect can be a great energizer, however, if you can keep yourself in check.
As if that wasn’t enough for one day, we also have Venus entering Virgo thru the 30th. This lays down an energy that’s great for i-dotting and t-crossing in relationships and creative endeavors, not to mention redecorating! Her sign shift also signals the end of the old Leo stellium, and the beginning of a Virgo STELLIUM (currently including Venus, Saturn and Mars) that will dominate the sky thru the 30th.

8/8 (Fri). Today’s Mars-Neptune quincunx can generate confusion around what action to take. With Mars in Virgo, call upon your powers of discrimination to overcome any fog of uncertainty you may be experiencing.

8/9 (Sat). With Leonine Mercury trine Pluto, it’s a great time for research, a soul-baring performance, or frank communication that dives to the heart of the issue.

8/10 (Sun). Mercury enters Virgo, one of the signs it rules, today thru the 28th. This puts four planets (Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Mars) in Virgo thru the 19th, powerfully energizing the energies of discrimination, meticulousness, steady routine, health focus and service to others.

8/11 (Mon). How vital are you feeling? With today’s Sun-Chiron opposition, it’s a good day to focus healing energy into whatever ails you!

8/13 (Wed). The day of the Venus-Saturn conjunction each year might as well be called World Relationship Testing Day. Saturn has no tolerance for illusions or fantasies, and anything that is weak, insufficiently grounded or less than 100% shipshape in your relationships can be tested at this time. This is a blessing, of course, since it can make you conscious of how to improve the staying power of good relationships, and give you a heads-up on the ones that have run their course. (It’s also a great time for creative productivity.)

8/14 (Thu). Weird, edgy, off-kilter, skewed – it can be easy to feel this way when the Sun is quincunx Uranus. The best remedy is to adjust your focus to receive intuitive flashes and follow them!

8/15 (Fri). What a complementary pair of transits we have today! The Sun-Neptune opposition makes it unusually easy for your ego (Sun) to enter into relationship (opposition) with your divine source (Neptune). The highest ways of expressing this are meditative bliss and creative inspiration. You can also participate more actively by visualizing your desired reality.
All of this  high-vibration energy is grounded down to earth by today’s Mercury-Saturn conjunction. This can operate as, “What I think (Mercury) becomes reality (Saturn).” All in all, this pair of transits presents an unusually powerful opportunity under which to exercise the Law of Attraction, as taught in The Secret.
Of course, there will be those who use Sun-Neptune to overindulge in drugs or alcohol, and Mercury-Saturn to further rigidify their thinking. But you know better than that, don’t you?

8/16 (Sat). Eclipses always come in pairs two weeks apart, and August’s second one arrives today at 5:16 pm Eastern time. Occurring at 24°21' Aquarius, this Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon) asks how “full-filled” you are in fully living as the unique and unusual person that you came to be, and how much you are using your special talents to help those around you. The adjustments you make to more intentionally steer in this direction will be especially powerful, since Lunar Eclipses are like Full Moons on steroids!
As discussed on 8/1, eclipses leave behind “hot spots” – in this case, at 24°21' Aquarius. Events that will move you forward more fully into the manifestation of your one-of-a-kind potentials are likely to occur as moving planets aspect this point by conjunction, square or opposition over the next year.
Neptune, the planet of divine unity, is conjunct the Moon during this Lunar Eclipse. So be sure to consciously partner with Source as you work with your Full Moon affirmations and intentions – both receptively (“What is Thy will?”) and evocatively (“I hereby call upon the power of Spirit to energize these affirmations!”). The Neptune-Moon conjunction also sets up an energy field that should facilitate an amazing Full Moon meditation!
The Sabian Symbol for this eclipse is “A butterfly with the right wing more perfectly formed. / The capacity to develop the rational and fully conscious aspect of the mind ahead of normal evolution.”* Aquarius is, by its nature, the energy of leading-edge innovations and breakthroughs. So one of the affirmations you can make at this time is to dedicate yourself to the full flowering of your special gifts, even if there are some who would prefer that you didn’t. As Steven Forrest says in his wonderful basic astrology book The Inner Sky, part of the job of Aquarius is to follow their “weird” destiny – even if, by doing so, they disappoint those who love them.
This eclipse occurs on the same day as a lucky joining of ancient astrology’s strongest benefics (bringers of good fortune) – a trine between Venus and Jupiter. Both are also money planets, and are in resource-attracting earth signs to boot. This suggests that good fortune will bless your Full Moon affirmations, and also hints that maybe you should throw one or two prosperity affirmations in the mix!

8/17 (Sun). It’s well-documented that things get crazier, more emotional and more intense around Full Moons. Eclipses intensify this effect, and today’s Mars-Pluto square is the icing on the cake! This is an energy under which those who are less stable and more prone to violence are more likely to lash out. So take care to stay out of harm’s way, and resolve to use Mars-Pluto more productively by drawing on its transformative energy to empower your work as a peaceful warrior in the world. Mars is also making a biquintile to Neptune, which should help you receive an extra measure of intuitive guidance as you act.
Keeping a clear head can be critical at times like these, and today’s Mercury-Jupiter trine should help keep your synapses firing optimally.

8/19 (Tue). Mars enters Libra today thru 10/3. You can get all worried about the fact that Mars is weakened by being in detriment here, or you can make the best of it by focusing some of your drive and vital energy into relationships and/or creative expression.

8/20 (Wed). Both Venus and Mercury quincunx Chiron today, asking what adjustments are now appropriate in your relationships and mental patterns.

8/21 (Thu). Mercury and Venus join in Virgo today, opening up many archetypal possibilities. Creative writing. Precise and harmonious communication. Learning about creativity. Editing and refining creative work already done. Enjoyably relating with others. Pick any or all!

8/22 (Fri). The Sun enters Virgo today thru 9/22, joining the three planets already there (Saturn, Venus and Mercury). The energy of Virgo doesn’t always get the respect it deserves, which is a shame – we’d be lost and hopelessly disorganized without it! Virgo’s special gifts include organization, discrimination, detail work, daily routine, health maintenance, and sacred service. You would do well to put more focus into these areas while Virgo energy is so strong in the sky!

8/23 (Sat). Mercury and Venus both oppose Uranus today, opening the door for sudden intuitive insights. Paradigm shifts in relationships, creativity and specific  thought patterns may be in the offing. Making time to meditate and receive deeper insight on these matters (Mercury quincunx Neptune) could be an excellent strategy.

8/24 (Sun). As Venus quincunxes Neptune today, allow that which does not serve you in your relationships to dissolve away. Continuing yesterday’s meditation strategy should serve you well.

8/25 (Mon). It’s a good time to refine your creativity and relationships as Venus biquintiles Chiron today.

8/27 (Wed). Just when you thought you had it all worked out (Mercury in Virgo), here comes a square from Pluto to shake you up! This aspect can challenge long-held beliefs, but only requires their release or reworking in order to bring a greater truth up from the depths. This aspect is also powerful for research, psychotherapy, occult explorations or other immersions into the hidden depths of wisdom. Mercury’s biquintile to Neptune can impart some divine guidance to your efforts.

8/28 (Thu). Mercury enters Libra for an extended stay thru 11/4. There can only be one reason for the fleet-footed messenger to tarry so long in one sign: because it will go retrograde there. (Mercury’s Libran retrograde will start on 9/24 and end on 10/15.) During its tenure, it will radiate for your use the energy of sociability, interactivity and creativity.

8/29 (Fri). Venus mirrors Mercury’s transits from the 27th today, squaring Pluto and biquintiling Neptune. The Pluto square can challenge the parts of your important relationships that need an overhaul, and can also help bring outworn ones to a close. The Neptune biquintile subtly radiates creative inspiration, and can also make it easier to consciously connect with Source.

8/30 (Sat). Venus enters Libra today thru 9/23, further amping up the growing energy of relationship and creativity. In fact, her entry dethrones Virgo to make Libra the sky’s strongest energy 8/30 thru 10/3.
        We have a
SECOND NEW MOON in August, this one at 3:58 pm Eastern at 07°48' Virgo – an ideal time to initiate new plans based on the positive Virgoan qualities described in the 8/22 entry.
This New Moon’s Sabian Symbol is “A five-year-old child takes a first dancing lesson. / Learning to use one’s capacity for emotional self-expression according to cultural standards.”* This symbol acknowledges that, in any area in which we are starting out (whatever our age!), it can be wise to learn the rules before we start breaking them. Mastery is more easily attained by first walking in others’ footsteps, rather than by rebelliously going our own way from the start and blundering into time- and energy-wasting mistakes.

* Sabian Symbol and interpretation quotes are from An Astrological Mandala by Dane Rudhyar.

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

July 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

Whatever your sun sign, this forecast will help you choose how to best use each month’s astrological energies! Events are most powerful on the dates listed. However, their influence will be active for at least several days before and after. All dates and times are in the U.S. eastern time zone.

While everyone is affected by these global transits, you will be most powerfully impacted when moving planets activate natal planets and other sensitive points in your birth chart.

VOID-OF-COURSE MOONS

Try to avoid starting important new things during these times.

7/2, 3:09 – 3:54 am  (Cancer)
7/3, 4:14 pm – 7/4, 4:17 am (Leo)
7/6, 6:05 – 7:05 am (Virgo)
7/8, 12:22 – 1:32 pm (Libra)
7/10, 10:14 – 11:36 pm (Scorpio)
7/12, 11:06 pm – 7/13, 11:51 am (Sagittarius)
7/15, 10:45 pm – 7/16, 12:21 am (Capricorn)
7/18, 4 – 11:41 am (Aquarius)
7/20, 7:26 – 9:09 pm (Pisces)
7/23, 2:29 – 4:24 am (Aries)
7/25, 7:31 – 9:15 am (Taurus)
7/27, 12:52 – 11:56 am (Gemini)
7/29, 11:26 am – 1:13 pm (Cancer)
7/31, 1:31 am – 2:23 pm (Leo)

7/1 (Tue). Mars enters Virgo today through 8/19. This is a great time to take whatever gets you excited and apply the craftsman’s finishing touches. Channeling energy and enthusiasm into service to others is also a positive use of this energy.

7/2 (Wed). July’s NEW MOON occurs at 10:18 p.m. at 11°32' Cancer, a great time for new beginnings in the areas of nurturing and healing. The New Moon is also conjunct Venus and opposing Pluto, suggesting that this is a good time to help others transform (or be transformed yourself) through your interactions. This New Moon also supports new creative projects, especially if they have a transformative vibe or if the artist is hoping to make a lot of money from them. Finally, this New Moon is great for starting new financial ventures, as long as everybody benefits.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is, “A Chinese woman nursing a baby whose aura reveals him to be the reincarnation of a great teacher.” So conscientiously nurture whatever you start in this New Moon’s waxing light, and great things may come from them as they grow to maturity!

7/3 (Thu). Both of today's aspects -- Capricornian Jupiter opposing Venus and Mercury trine Chiron -- can actually be interpreted the same way: a good time to meet with mentors.
Beyond that similarity, their interpretations diverge. The Venus-Jupiter opposition can indicate an important relationship beginning, reaching a new level of commitment, or coming to a conclusion. With Jupiter in Capricorn, ask yourself if the relationship is moving your goals forward or serving a practical purpose. With Venus in Cancer, ask if there is enough nurturing and healing between the two of you.
The Mercury-Chiron trine is great for mental detail work: dotting the i’s, crossing the t’s and final polishing before the final product goes out into the world.

7/4 (Fri). The fine-tuning vibe continues, but today's Venus-Chiron quincunx gives it a new focus on relationships and creativity.

7/5 (Sat). There may have been fireworks in the sky last night, but the inner explosions peak today as Mercury squares Uranus. Make space for intuitive flashes of inspiration, and don't write them off just because you may resist them at first! Your ability to take these thought forms and creatively manifest them into concrete reality is aided by today's Mercury-Saturn quintile.

7/6 (Sun). The mental focus shifts from flash to flow today as Mercury trines Neptune. Divinely inspired creativity flows more easily under this aspect, as does entry into the bliss of divine union.
It's nice when a paradigm shift comes along that isn't so hard to integrate! That's the opportunity today as Venus trines Uranus, encouraging you to open to intuitive flashes that will assist you in your relationships and creative expression.

7/7 (Mon). While today's Venus-Neptune quincunx can be great for creative expression and entering into relationship with the divine, it can also manifest less positively as deception or secretive behavior. The stronger your connection to your own divine source, the less likely it is that you'll be bamboozled by Neptune's dark side!

7/9 (Wed). Feeling inexplicably perky today? You can thank today's Sun-Jupiter opposition, one of astrology's great vitality boosters!

7/10 (Thu). Today's Mars-Saturn conjunction is one of those "use it or be used by it" aspects. Left to its own devices, it can constrict your energy and leave you feeling unmotivated. But, if you can force yourself past inertia into action, it can make you feel like the Energizer Bunny!
Mercury enters Cancer today through July 26. Focus on letting your words carry the energy of nurturing and healing.

7/12 (Sat). Venus makes a run for the border today, ready to transition from the domestic tranquility of Cancer to the more exciting and creative realm of Leo (where she’ll stay through 8/5). She reaches her destination, but not without a parting shot from Pluto. Be open to adjustments which can help your relationships and creativity under the energy of their quincunx.

7/14 (Mon). Turn thought into action. Go sell something. Get those thoughts out of your head and onto the paper. Have a productive and nurturing conversation. These are just a few ways to use today's Mercury-Saturn sextile!
"It's Easy to Be Weird!" Okay, so it's not the world's catchiest song title, but it's truer than usual under today's Sun-Uranus trine. Let your freak flag fly -- or at least allow a little more of your unique self to show.

7/15 (Tue). Here's another of those "use or be used" aspects: Sun quincunx Neptune. Passivity may leave you feeling as if you're stumbling around, directionless, in an impenetrable fog. Set your intention on tuning into your intuition, seeking oneness with Spirit or receiving creative inspiration, however, and the outcome will be far more pleasant!
Thought and action are energetically joined by today's Mercury-Mars sextile. Don't just think -- do!

7/18 (Fri). July’s FULL MOON occurs at 3:59 a.m. at 26°04' Capricorn -- time to evaluate how well you're doing in the realm of your business, career, worldly achievement and recognition. if you need to make some adjustments so that you'll achieve your goals on schedule, then by all means do so! |
The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is, "Pilgrims climbing the steep steps leading to a mountain shrine.” Whether or not you resonate with the symbol’s spiritual flavor, it definitely speaks to the expenditure of significant effort to achieve a lofty goal. So gird yourself with the courage to persevere past all difficulties and achieve your aspirations!

7/19 (Sat). What a great day for communication! Mercury and Jupiter, teachers both, are in opposition today. Whether you're on the giving or receiving end of information, it should flow abundantly. And if there's something you’ve been needing to say to a family member, these planets’ placement in the family-focused signs of Capricorn and Cancer should help you get across whatever you need to say.

7/21 (Mon). With two quincunxes dominating the sky today -- Sun-Pluto and Mercury-Chiron -- perhaps we should just call this Adjustment Day. Maybe you should go see your chiropractor!

7/22 (Tue). The Sun enters Leo today through 8/22. Helios is at the height of his power in the sign that he rules, radiating the energy of creativity, leadership, childlike playfulness, wise risk-taking and plain old fun!
Think fast! Actually, you can with the mental acceleration made possible by today's Mercury-Uranus trine. It's also a great day to catch intuitive flashes.

7/23 (Wed). If yesterday's mental acuity seems to be giving way to a pile-up of lethargic brain fuzz, it may be today's Mercury-Neptune quincunx at work. Asking for answers from Spirit, rather than trying to come up with them yourself, may serve you better.

7/25 (Fri). Welcome to Adjustment Day II! Today's quincunx pairings are Venus-Jupiter and Mercury-Pluto, suggesting that workarounds and “Plan B's” may feature prominently. Fortunately, were also blessed with the Venus-Uranus biquintile, flowing magical inspiration into relationships and creativity.

7/26 (Sat). Mercury enters Leo today through 8/10, giving support to activities such as creative writing and dramatic oratory. Mercury’s sign change also creates a STELLIUM in Leo, where it joins the Sun and Venus to make Leo the strongest sign in the sky thru 8/6.
There are two planets in astrology that are the great initiators: Mars and Jupiter. They trine today, making it easier than usual to kick off something new or re-energize something already underway. They're also both in earth signs, making it easier to take the whole thing to the finish line!

7/28 (Mon). Got childhood wounds? With Venus opposing Chiron, it's a good day to work toward healing them through cathartic creative expression or deep dialoguing. If that sounds too heavy, you could always just put the finishing touches on some creative projects.

7/29 (Tue). The Sun conjoins Mercury today, bringing to mind Danny Boyle’s extraordinary science fiction film Sunshine (in which both planets feature prominently). Your day should be significantly less stressful than the events of that film, however, with lots of energy available for learning, sharing information, and creative expression. Creativity also gets a boost from today's Venus-Jupiter biquintile.

7/30 (Wed). Ready for some fresh ideas in your relationships and creative expression? Even if it takes some work to connect all the dots? Then today's Venus-Uranus quincunx should suit you just fine. Use the Flash!

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

June 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

Whatever your sun sign, this forecast will help you choose how to best use each month’s astrological energies! Events are most powerful on the dates listed. However, their influence will be active for at least several days before and after. All dates and times are in the U.S. eastern time zone.

While everyone is affected by these global transits, you will be most powerfully impacted when moving planets activate natal planets and other sensitive points in your birth chart.

VOID-OF-COURSE MOONS

Try to avoid starting important new things during these times.

6/2, 9:03 am - 6:07 pm (Gemini)
6/4, 8:09 am - 5:17 pm (Cancer)
6/6, 5:33 am - 6:01 pm (Leo)
6/8, 11:41 am - 10:02 pm (Virgo)
6/10, 3:42 pm – 6/11, 5:56 am (Libra)
6/13,  5:16 am - 4:54 pm (Scorpio)
6/15, 5:30 pm – 6/16, 5:21 am (Sagittarius)
6/18, 5:38 - 5:53 pm (Capricorn)
6/20, 3:03 pm – 6/21, 5:35 am (Aquarius)
6/23, 3:05 - 3:34 pm (Pisces)
6/25, 10:17 - 10:51 pm (Aries)
6/28,  2:14 - 2:52 am (Taurus)
6/30, 2:43 - 4:05 am (Gemini)

6/1 (Sun). With Mercury quintile Saturn, it’s a great time to do creative brainstorming around new business ventures or other substantive accomplishments. Learning and communications of all kinds are well-supported.

6/3 (Tue). June’s NEW MOON lines up at 13°34' Gemini at 3:22 pm. New Moons are normally ideal for new beginnings, but this energy of initiation is compromised because Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, is retrograde thru 6/19 at 10:31 a.m. And by then, we’ll be in a Full Moon phase. This doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t kick off New Moon plans – just don’t expect them to go as you anticipated. (It can be highly educational to observe Mercury Retrograde’s effects firsthand!)
Whatever your decision, the fact remains that this New Moon bears a striking Sabian Symbol*: “Bridging physical space and social distinctions, two men communicate telepathically.” Its keynote is, “The capacity to transcend the limitations of bodily existence.” How perfect that this comes up during Mercury Retrograde, since Mercury is about communication and retrogrades can mark a turn within into the deeper, more hidden realms of reality. So there’s at least one New Moon goal you can make: try an ESP experiment with a friend!

6/4 (Wed). Anticipate a nice energy boost with the Sun sextile Mars today. With these planets in Gemini and Leo, it can also be a good time to step into the spotlight and strut your stuff!

6/5 (Thu). Today’s Sun-Jupiter biquintile is subtle, but can be inspirational for writing and other forms of self-expression.

6/6 (Fri). Venus, now right on the Sun’s coattails, makes the same biquintile to Jupiter today that the Sun made yesterday. With this combination, look for inspiration in the realms of relationships and creativity. Communication with your beloved is also positively supported.
But there’s more good news: the lovers’ planets, Venus and Mars, make a flowing sextile today. This also bodes well for harmonious interactions with your sweetheart.

6/7 (Sat). It’s a double conjunction day, with Mercury giving quick kisses to the Sun and Venus as it reverses through Gemini. These link-ups are generally good for learning, writing, and teaching, and ideal for reflection on self-concept, relationships and creative expression.

6/8 (Sun). Mercury may be retrograde, but as it sextiles fiery Mars in the spotlight-loving sign of Leo today, the urge to wow ‘em with a show-stopper may impossible to resist. Even if you’re not a Broadway diva, or even a hometown karaoke king, this is a good time to shine out at least a bit more than usual!

6/9 (Mon). Venus, having dogged the Sun’s heels for weeks, finally catches up with today’s conjunction. Let the brightness of the Sun’s light help you clearly see your relationships for what they are, while simultaneously radiating an abundant vitality that will assist you in either shoring up any weak spots or celebrating what’s already wonderful.

6/10 (Tue). The common theme among the three aspects that Venus makes today (quincunx to Jupiter, quintile to Saturn and trine to Chiron) is a sense of solidifying, grounding and fine-tuning. Feel free to apply this to relationships, creativity or both. (The fact that the Sun makes all the same aspects tomorrow morning helps to energize all of this even more!)

6/12 (Thu). As Uranus is squared by Venus (today) and the Sun (tomorrow), you may get the opportunity to see both yourself and your relationships from a different perspective. Uranus communicates via the ITC – the “Intuitive Tingle of Certainty” – so be open to those strong but fleeting “lightning strikes” of wisdom within. The more you act on them, the less Uranus will have to play its “sower of chaos” role in order to bring about necessary paradigm shifts in your life.

6/13 (Fri). When you play any two notes an octave apart on a keyboard, they harmoniously support and reinforce each other. This is also the case with “planetary octaves,” such as today’s Venus-Neptune trine (amplified by tomorrow’s Sun-Neptune trine). Venus represents personal creative expression, while Neptune stands in for the inspiration bestowed by the Muses themselves. These two energies merge easily today, making it an ideal time for creativity of all kinds. Venus and Neptune can also play well together in helping you create a more profound relationship with Spirit, and in bringing deeper soul-connection to your relationships with humans and other earthly beings.

6/14 (Sat). PLUTO RE-ENTERS SAGITTARIUS. Pluto’s entry into Capricorn back on Jan. 25 was headline astrology news, and its passage through the Sign of the Mountain Goat through 2024 promises to coincide with events that will profoundly alter life on earth as we know it. (For more on Pluto in Capricorn and other astrological mega-events, read this article.) Today, however, Pluto retrogrades back into Sagittarius for one last visit before settling into Capricorn for the long haul on Nov. 26. Don’t be surprised if Pluto digs up some more dirt in the areas of religion, politics, and international intrigue while it revisits the Sign of the Archer!

6/15 (Sun). Today’s Mars-Jupiter quincunx can bring a sense of frustrated desire – a powerful urge to burst out of the starting blocks weighted down by the sense that some significant adjustment must be made before the starting pistol can fire. If you can figure out what the adjustment is, though, you’ve got some powerful energy supporting you!

6/16 (Mon). A “leadership challenge” YOD peaks today, and is active June 15-18. With Uranus and Jupiter pointing the “finger of God” at Mars, the question is whether you’re willing to step into some kind of leadership or pioneering role in a high-profile way (Mars in Leo). The keys to success in this endeavor are maintaining a steady sense of hope and optimism (Jupiter in Capricorn) and acting on your intuitive flashes of wisdom (Uranus in Pisces). Chiron’s opposition to Mars (making this a “bounce-back yod”) suggests that sharing some much-needed wisdom or healing with the world might be an important factor.

6/18 (Wed). There’s a FULL MOON today at 1:30 pm at 28° Sagittarius – time to ask how “full-filled” you are in areas such as religion, philosophy, foreign travel, higher education and adventurousness. This Full Moon’s Sabian Symbol* is, “An old bridge over a beautiful stream is still in constant use.” The keynote is, “The enduring elements in a society which reveal its ability to significantly link the genius of its individuals to the everyday needs of the collectivity.”
With this Full Moon occurring on the last day of the yod discussed on 6/16, an additional Sagittarian keyword – “teacher of higher wisdom” – comes to mind. Would part of you shine more brightly if you stepped forward to share some information or talent you possess in a more public way?
Venus enters Cancer today thru 7/12, bringing the opportunity for a more heartfelt, nurturing tone to relationships. She also opposes Pluto, which can expose secrets within relationships and possibly ignite power struggles. If used more consciously, however, the Venus-Pluto opposition can ignite soul-deep passion (great for tantra!) and encourage a deeper soul-blending than ever before.

6/19 (Thu). Exercise special caution today, since Mars and Uranus, the Accident Twins, make a challenging quincunx today. To use this energy to your benefit, be willing to act rapidly on any intuitive flashes you receive – even if you must make a significant adjustment in order to do so.

MERCURY GOES DIRECT today at 10:32 am. Many will breathe a sigh of relief and jump ahead with new projects that have been waiting in the wings. Those of a more cautious bent, however, will wait until Mercury clears its shadow (the point at which it went retrograde) on July 4 at 9 am to avoid any trace of MRE (Mercury Retrograde Effect) tainting their new undertakings.
Saturn sextiles Ceres today, a solid combination for business and financial activities.

6/20 (Fri). Happy SUMMER SOLSTICE! There are more actual minutes of daylight today, as the Sun enters Cancer, than during any other day of the year, so give up a prayer of appreciation to Old Sol for the abundant solar energy that makes our physical existence possible. Be sure to include a sincere openness to ongoing personal transformation, as indicated by today’s Sun-Pluto opposition.
          The
STELLIUM formed today (three or more planets in a sign – in this case, Sun, Venus and Ceres in the Sign of the Crab) makes Cancer the strongest energy in the sky. It will remain so thru 7/22.
Mundane astrologers (who study astrology’s practical effects on countries and the world) draw up “ingress charts” when a new season begins. These tell something about the energy picture for the next three months. The summer ingress chart for the U.S. (calculated for Washington, D.C.) has plenty of challenge, so look for a rather tumultuous national scene this summer!

6/21 (Sat). Wait to be acted upon, and today’s Neptune-Mars opposition could drain the energy from your physical vitality. Used more proactively, it could give you the impetus you need to visualize the reality you desire or forge boldly into the heights of spiritual realization!
Need a focus point for your visualization? Today’s Venus-Saturn sextile is good for bringing relationships and creativity into the next level of manifestation and groundedness.

6/24 (Tue). A GOLDEN YOD peaks today (made up of a Mercury-Mars quintile, with both planets also biquintiling Jupiter). Golden Yods are magical configurations of divine inspiration. In this case, you can use it to boldly (Mars) take your fresh ideas (Mercury) out where they will do the world some good (Jupiter in Capricorn, both of which are social energies). If you’ve got a helpful light burning, let it shine!

6/25 (Wed). Today’s Sun-Saturn sextile can give you consistent energy to fuel your vitality. Go get some good work done!

6/26 (Thu). URANUS RETROGRADE. Uranus shifts into retrograde today for just over five months, thru 11/27. This is a good time to reflect on how you can evolve into your highest level of individuation, which both fulfills your reasons for incarnating and serves the planet’s other living beings.

6/30 (Mon). June closes with an energizing Mars-Pluto trine. You can use this potent energy to launch anything new with lots of energy and enthusiasm!

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

May 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

Whatever your sun sign, this forecast will help you choose how to best use each month’s astrological energies! Events are most powerful on the dates listed. However, their influence will be active for at least several days before and after. All dates and times are in the U.S. eastern time zone.

While everyone is affected by these global transits, you will be most powerfully impacted when moving planets activate natal planets and other sensitive points in your birth chart.

VOID-OF-COURSE MOONS. It’s best to avoid starting important new projects or making major purchases during these times. “Business as usual” is the best strategy for these periods, which occur when the Moon has made its last major Ptolemaic aspect but has not yet moved into the next sign.

5/2, 5:35 am - 6:52 am (Aries)
5/4, 3:16 am - 7:59 am (Taurus)
5/6, 4:22 am - 7:18 am (Gemini)
5/7, 9:37 pm – 5/8, 7:02 am (Cancer)
5/9, 8:07 pm – 5/10, 9:11 am (Leo)
5/12, 4:09 am - 2:49 pm (Virgo)
5/14, 12:39 pm - 11:47 (Libra)
5/16, 11:29 pm – 5/17, 11:00 am (Scorpio)
5/19, 10:12 pm - 11:19 pm (Sagittarius)
5/22, 12:20 am - 11:56 am  (Capricorn)
5/24, 6:53 pm - 11:52 pm (Aquarius)
5/26, 10:50 pm – 5/27, 9:39 am (Pisces)
5/29, 2:23 am - 3:53 pm (Aries)
5/31, 8:54 am - 6:19 pm (Taurus)

5/1 (Thu). Today is when the third and final incarnation (active 4/27-5/6) of the GRAND TRINE that dominated April peaks. This time Venus is in the musical chair recently vacated by Mercury and the Sun. Please read the 4/18 entry for the Grand Trine’s basic meaning, but what's different now is that – since Venus rules Taurus, and Taurus is a money sign – the business and financial possibilities are especially strong. You can also use this energy to empower and stabilize relationships and creative expression.

5/2 (Fri). Mercury enters Gemini today through -- July 11? That's right. The messenger’s stay in its home sign will be unusually long because its next retrograde, which starts on the 26th, will take place entirely within Gemini. Therefore, opportunities for communication and learning will be amplified during this time.
SATURN DIRECT. Saturn, which has been retrograde since December 19, turns direct today at 2° Virgo. This can help give new forward momentum to business ventures and other accomplishments requiring persistent effort. This is a great time to shift from "planning your work" to "working your plan." Don't expect your efforts to be instantly rewarded -- Saturn always requires hard work before he ponies up -- but at least you're no longer tacking against a headwind!

5/3 (Sat). Mercury is doubly challenged today, with a quincunx to Pluto and a square to Saturn. Watch for challenges to your self-expression and freedom of thought. Or you can proactively harness these energies by diving into psychological or research work or speaking out as an authority.

5/4 (Sun). Mercury’s quintile to Uranus makes it much happier today, opening the rational mind to flashes of creative inspiration from Divine Mind.

5/5 (Mon). May's NEW MOON is at 8:18 a.m. at 15°22' Taurus. Since one of Taurus’ mottos is "I have," and since the Sign of the Bull relates to what you value, you can use this New Moon to make new beginnings in the areas of finance and material security. New starts in the areas of sensuality and immersion into nature are also well supported.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is, "An old teacher fails to interest his pupils in traditional knowledge." The symbol's keynote is, "the inadequacy of past knowledge in time of crisis," and relates to the principle of "creative frustration."* So even though this New Moon is in Taurus, the sign which most loves to dig itself into a comfortable groove, its Sabian symbol urges us to break out of our comfort zone and try something new. Perhaps this is in response to a new and unprecedented situation -- since Taurus is the sign that most relates to the natural world, the global climate crisis springs inevitably to mind. Following the principle of "Think Globally, Act Locally," identify the biggest sea change in your own life and think outside the box to come up with the best response.
Thinking outside the box -- along with every imaginable flavor of creative expression and divine connection -- is also supported by today’s Venus-Neptune quintile.

5/9 (Fri). JUPITER RETROGRADE. Jupiter begins a four-month retrograde today, backpedaling from 22° to 13° Capricorn before turning direct on 9/8. In a way, it hardly seems fair: Saturn, the planet of sweat equity, only went direct a week ago and has just started to build some momentum. Now Jupiter has to go and slow things down by putting its expansive energies into reverse in Capricorn, the sign which represents the same accomplishment-oriented ethos as Saturn. This pulls some energy away from "work your plan" and back into "plan your work."
Saturn still has the upper hand, since slower planets tend to trump faster ones, and overall this is still a good time to get things done. Just be prepared to invest a little bit of extra energy!
Mars also enters Leo today through 7/1, heating up the energy of the entertainer, jester and royal leader in each of us.

5/11 (Sun). Carrying around some buried anger, rage or frustration? Be wary of potential triggers for its eruption, courtesy of today's Mars-Pluto quincunx! To circumvent such unpleasantness, take advantage of Mars’ recent entry into Leo by making a dramatic new beginning of some kind instead.
The Sun is also square Chiron today, hinting that an unresolved childhood wound may lie at the core of any dark energies being stirred up within you.

5/12 (Mon). Bright sunlight breaks through yesterday's storm clouds -- and not just metaphorically, since the Sun itself benefits from two favorable aspects today. The sextile from Uranus makes it easier to receive intuitive flashes, while the trine from Jupiter beams in the energy of joy and expansiveness.

5/13 (Tue). The Sun is in the spotlight again today (okay, I guess it is the spotlight, but you get my drift). Its square to Neptune favors more etheric activities such as meditation, creative downloading, dreamwork and fantasizing.

5/17 (Sat). Here are three ways to make good use of today's Venus-Chiron square: work through an old childhood wound in the context of a current relationship, refine your latest creative masterpiece, or engage in a breakthrough mentoring session.

5/18 (Sun). If, in reading this month's column, you’re occasionally struck with a sense of déjà vu, it's not just your imagination. Venus starts May trailing the Sun by about 10°, then gradually closes most of that distance by month’s end. As a result, Venus plays copycat by making most of the same aspects as the light of our lives.
Today is a good case in point, as Venus sextiles Uranus and trines Jupiter (just as the Sun did on the 12th). But Venus’ involvement definitely changes the interpretation, bringing the energies of paradigm shift and expansion into the fields of relationship and creativity. So try something new with your sweetheart, and make time for your muse!

5/19 (Mon). The creative juices are strong again today, as Venus and Mars (which can be either creative or procreative!) connect via the angle of creativity itself: the quintile. This is also a lovely energy for relationships.
Emotions will also be running strong for another reason: May’s FULL MOON, which achieves maximum brightness at 10:11 p.m. at 29°26’ Scorpio. As always with Full Moons, contemplate how "full-filled" you are -- in this case, with your shared resources. These could be financial (stocks, bonds, loans, etc.), relational (romantic or business partnerships) or occult (astrology, numerology, tarot, and such, in which you blend your personal energy with transpersonal forces).
The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is, "Children in Halloween costumes indulge in various pranks." Rudhyar further defines this symbol as, "The periodic outlets society furnishes within traditional limits to still-immature energies" and "creative relief from tension."*

5/20 (Tue). Venus squares Neptune today (there’s that Venus/Sun déjà vu again), keeping the creative flow going strong. (Be aware, however, that deception and delusion in relationships are possible under this aspect.) Venus’ biquintile to Pluto empowers creativity even more.
The Sun enters Gemini (at high noon), bathing Earth with the energy of curiosity, communication and eclecticism through June 20.
Finally, a GOLDEN YOD, active 5/18-22, peaks today. With both members of a Mars-Venus quintile making biquintiles to Pluto, this magical aspect pattern inspires creative expression and helps it well up from a deep and powerful place. It can also do the same for relationships.

5/21 (Wed). May's most powerful astrological event comes exact today as JUPITER SEXTILES URANUS. Aspects between slower planets have longer-term effects: these two really started connecting in mid-February, made another exact sextile on 3/28, and have had their energies powerfully linked ever since. In fact, their connection won't weaken until late June!
During this time, Uranus strives to revolutionize all things Jupiterian: religion, spirituality, philosophy, politics, foreign affairs, long-distance travel and higher education, to name the most obvious suspects. You would do well to act on any intuitive flashes you receive in these areas.
There’s also a Sun-Pluto quincunx today, challenging us to experience increased vitality by surrendering to whatever powerful transformation we've been resisting.

5/22 (Thu). Vitality can be hard to come by with aspects like today's Sun-Saturn square. If you're feeling “heavy burdened”, there are two strategies you can try. One is to capitalize on Saturn's love of work by overcoming your inertia and forcing yourself to be productive: often, once you get the ball rolling, Saturn will reward you with endurance. If you're just not up for the front-end grunt work, you can retreat from effort entirely and play hermit. (Even workaholic Saturn needs an occasional rest!)

5/23 (Fri). Mercury trine Chiron is great for fine-tuning details or meetings with mentors.

5/24 (Sat). Venus follows the Sun into Gemini today, where she will remain through 6/18. This is a great time to cultivate a variety of your most mentally stimulating relationships.
Venus will pass the Sun and Mercury on her way through the sign of the fleet-footed messenger. This STELLIUM (three or more planets in the same sign) means that Gemini will be the strongest sign in the zodiac through 6/18.

5/25 (Sun). Ready to make the adjustments that will promote transformation in your relationships and your creativity? Then you’re all set for today’s Venus-Pluto quincunx! (With Venus in Gemini, be prepared to talk things through at the deepest level.)
It's not often that we experience THREE PLANETARY RETROGRADES WITHIN 18 HOURS. But, starting today, that's exactly what's happening! Retrogrades have the effect of encouraging reflection more than action, and can slow down whatever you’re doing that relates to the planets involved. Plus, planets are especially powerful when changing directions, which adds special intensity to these next couple of days.
CHIRON RETROGRADE. Chiron is the first of the three, and will stay in reverse for exactly five months -- retrograding at 21°9’ Aquarius and going direct at 16°2’ Aquarius. You can use its retrograde to reflect on your childhood wounds, consider how you should be giving and/or receiving mentoring, and work on becoming a "rainbow bridge" – an open channel for the transmission of transpersonal forces.

5/26 (Mon). "Retrogrades R Us" kicks into high gear today, with Mercury and Neptune shifting into reverse just 27 minutes apart (Mercury at 11:48 a.m., Neptune at 12:15 p.m.)
MERCURY RETROGRADE is, of course, the badass of the bunch, infamous for throwing a monkey wrench into communications, technology and travel. (It retrogrades at 21°32’ Gemini, then goes direct again on June 19, 10:31 a.m. at 13° Gemini.) Since this retrograde is occurring entirely within Gemini, which Mercury rules, it could well be more powerful than usual. So make sure your communications are set up like you want them, back up your data, and triple-check your travel arrangements. (And don't schedule those airline connections too close together!) On the upside, Mercury retrograde is a wonderful time for introspective reflection and finishing up projects that were started prior to the retrograde.
By the way, it's worth noting that people experience Mercury Retrograde more or less powerfully depending on how major a player Mercury is in their natal chart.
NEPTUNE RETROGRADE will last much longer -- it won't go direct until 11/2, over five months from now -- but, for most people, will be much less noticeable. (The rule for retrogrades is that the faster the planet, the more we notice the effects of its retrogrades.) However, if you have a sensitive natal point on, opposing or square to Neptune’s retrograde path (it goes retrograde at 24°15’ Aquarius, and will go direct at 21°28’), you will definitely feel it doing its dissolving or spiritualizing work!
All three of these newly retrograde planets are in air signs, which relate to the intellect. So weed through your fixed ideas and concepts, and have the courage to revise or discard those which have outlived their usefulness.
As if all these retrogrades weren't enough to deal with, we’re also faced with a notoriously challenging relationship transit: Venus square Saturn. Yes, we all need the periodic reality checks that the stern taskmaster provides, but that doesn't make them any easier. Still, it's good to know when a relationship has run its course, and being willing to embark upon a little relationship renovation will make a good partnership stronger.

5/28 (Wed). If yesterday's relationship challenges left you flustered, don't despair: today's Venus-Uranus quintile could provide you with the flash of insight you need to make things better. It can also provide creative types with the “Eureka!” moment they need to inspire their next masterpiece.

5/29 (Thu). With Neptune trining Ceres, call upon Spirit to empower both your self-esteem and material prosperity. and today's Mercury-Chiron trine is just as good for fine-tuning details or meetings with mentors as it was on 5/23!

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

April 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

Whatever your sun sign, this forecast will help you choose how to best use each month’s astrological energies! Events are most powerful on the dates listed. However, their influence will be active for at least several days before and after. All dates and times are in the U.S. eastern time zone.

While everyone is affected by these global transits, you will be most powerfully impacted when moving planets activate natal planets and other sensitive points in your birth chart.

4/1. If you encounter a challenge to your self-esteem today, or come up against a financial difficulty, Pluto’s quincunx to Ceres may play a part. (No fooling!) Ask yourself what adjustments you can make to deal with the situation.

4/2. Pluto, at just past 1° Capricorn, goes retrograde today through September 8. The directional changes of outer planets are usually less significant than those of faster ones unless they aspect a sensitive point in your natal chart -- in this case, near 1° in the cardinal signs of Capricorn, Aries, Cancer or Libra. If this is the case, you would be wise to reflect on opportunities for transformation as this mighty dwarf reverses course.
Mercury enters Aries thru 4/17, making strong start-up energy available for learning, writing, teaching and other communication endeavors. Focusing in these areas will lessen the “dark side” Mercury in Aries possibilities of mental impatience and verbal sparring matches!

4/3. All things Mercurial are highlighted today, with the winged messenger making four aspects: a Pluto square, a Ceres sextile, a Saturn quincunx and a Jupiter quintile! The upshot: Mercury is simultaneously challenged, energized and creatively stimulated, making this an extraordinary time for all the infocentric activities described in the previous paragraph.

4/4. Issues around money or self-esteem often come to the fore when Saturn squares Ceres, as it does today. Ask not, "Why me?", but "How can I rise to the challenge?"

4/5. April's NEW MOON indicates its presence by the absence of lunar light at 11:54 pm at 17° Aries. New beginnings of all kinds are especially supported because this takes place in the zodiac's kickoff sign, as are new starts relating to exercise, physical activity and the body. (For best results, however, always wait 12 hours after the moon goes new before taking action.)
This New Moon's Sabian Symbol is "two dignified spinsters sitting in silence,” and relates to “the ability to transform a natural lack of potency into poise and inner serenity” and “the value of dignified inward withdrawal.”* This is not the image that would come to most people's minds in association with the rising sap of spring, but there are undoubtedly some -- elderly, perhaps, or physically limited -- for whom it will have resonance.

4/6. Venus joins Mercury and the Sun in Aries today, creating a STELLIUM (three or more planets in the same sign) and making the Sign of the Ram the strongest in the sky through 4/17. Venus also squares Pluto today, creating conditions ripe for conflict and argument if you don't tread carefully! Used positively, however, this energy can bring about powerful and positive change in relationships of all kinds.

4/7. Relationship challenge is the main theme again today, with Venus making a quincunx (adjustment required) to reality-checking Saturn. This adds even more intensity to the potentially difficult energies that kicked in yesterday. Guys would do well to bring their sweethearts flowers and a card today – “just on a whim.”
There's also a subtle creativity in the air (two biquintiles!).

4/8. Yesterday’s subtle creativity perks up considerably with today's Venus-Jupiter quintile. This angle of divine inspiration between benefics can also apply to relationships, so it may help you mend any damage caused by Venus’ recent difficulties.
However, this does not change the fact that a T-SQUARE, active now thru the 12th, peaks today. I wouldn't worry too much, though – it's  only moderately strong as these things go. This configuration -- a Mars-Jupiter opposition squared by the Sun in Aries -- could stimulate some home-based conflict, since Mars and Jupiter are in the Cancer-Capricorn "family axis." Or you could put this energy to better use by launching a new project or kicking something into high gear, since Jupiter, Mars and Aries are all potent energies of initiation.

4/9. Two planets dear to financial astrologers -- Venus and Ceres – make an energizing sextile today, opening up income possibilities for those ready to capitalize on opportunity!

4/10. Today is an "early bird gets the worm" sort of day, with Mars squaring Mercury in Aries. Not only that, the Sun (also in Aries) squares Capricornian Jupiter. These aspects have business opportunity written all over them, amplified by a sense of urgency. Just be careful that the Mars-Mercury square doesn't cause you to blurt out something you'll later regret!

4/12. The T-SQUARE described on 4/8 (second paragraph) has changed flavors, with Mercury now squaring the Mars-Jupiter opposition instead of the Sun. The interpretation is pretty much the same, except that mental activities are more specifically boosted the 11th thru 14th.
It's also a good day to crystallize creativity, with Venus biquintile Saturn.

4/13. It's another good day to be mindful of your speech, since today's Mercury-Jupiter square could encourage insufficient filtering between brain and mouth. Also be sure to pay sufficient attention to what's going on in your immediate environment: today’s Sun-Neptune sextile is lovely for experiencing higher consciousness and altered creative states, but could also make you something of a space case!

4/14. With Arean Mercury sextiling Neptune, it's a great time to enthusiastically communicate your creativity and spirituality.

4/15. It seems as if everyone wants to get involved with Neptune lately! Today it's Mars, making a creative biquintile to keep the recent creative vibe humming.

4/16. You should be able to get your brain firing on all cylinders with today's Sun-Mercury conjunction. (You might also notice that the people around you are more chatty than usual.)

4/17. Relief is at hand for those who've been feeling mentally hyperstimulated recently: Mercury enters Taurus today thru May 2. Communication becomes slower and more reflective in this calm, taciturn sign.

4/18. A week-long GRAND TRINE, created by Mercury, Saturn and Pluto, runs the 15th through 21st and peaks today. Grand Trines create equilibrium and natural blending of the energies involved, so it's easier for communication (Mercury) to be efficient and productive (Saturn) as well as psychologically deep and transformative (Pluto). This particular setup also creates a good environment for profitable business dealings. Just don't expect the money to fall into your lap: Grand Trine energy is so naturally balanced that it can tend toward laziness. Therefore, you'll need to provide the motive force needed to reap its rewards.
The Sun and Venus also participate in this Grand Trine -- please read the 4/21 and 5/1 entries to see how they both extend and alter the tone of this aspect pattern.

4/19. The Sun follows Mercury into Taurus today, where it will radiate the energy of calmness, serenity and sensuality through May 20. Taurean energy is also great for immersing yourself in the natural world and being consistent and methodical about building something. My favorite Taurus motto: "I am not a human doing -- I'm a human being."

4/20. April's FULL MOON is at 1° Scorpio at 6:25 a.m. Contemplate your level of "full-fillment" in how you share energy and resources with others. This can include committed romantic relationships, sexuality, finance (including investments and loans), occult practice and psychology.
The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is, "A crowded sightseeing bus on a city street.” Rudhyar* interprets this as “The fundamental human eagerness to expand one's social horizon and to experience the results of collective achievements and new ways of life...A widening of experience." This suggests a more adventurous mindset as you make adjustments to the areas of life experience mentioned above.

4/21. The energy of the GRAND TRINE described on 4/18 has now shifted. Mercury has moved on, but the Sun moves from side player to center stage. The solarcentric version of this aspect pattern peaks today, but spreads its web of influence April 14-28. The 4/18 interpretation still holds for the most part, but there is less focus on communication and a more general sense of grounded, consistent and reliable energy available for accomplishing your goals and building your personal resources.

4/22. All these Grand Trines are bringing Earth energy front and center -- all fine and good, but definitely not high on the excitement scale. To bring a little zing back into the picture, we have today's Mars-Uranus trine. This can represent an easy connection between your ability to receive flashes of intuitive insight (Uranus) and quickly act on it (Mars). (If you're not receiving as clearly as you would like, my article on how to take dictation from your Higher Self might help.)
Financial opportunities, already a strong theme this month, are further enhanced by the Taurean Sun’s quintile to Chiron and Venus’ sextile to Chiron.

4/23. A tight T-SQUARE peaks today, with a Mars-Jupiter opposition squaring Venus. This can focus a lot of expansive and aggressive energy into relationships, so it could be easier than usual to slip into fights or arguments. However, you can put this energy to better use by kicking off something new that nurtures or stabilizes the relationship. Creative projects can also be highly energized by this aspect pattern, which peaks today and lasts April 19-28.

4/24. A Mars-Jupiter opposition, the centerpiece of the T-square which peaked yesterday, itself peaks today. This keeps the T-square at high intensity. In addition to the ideas in the 4/23 entry, this combo is also good for a fresh start or energy boost wherever you might need it.

4/25. Neptune makes two exact contacts today, sextiling Venus and quintiling the Sun. Spend some time meditating or receiving the Muse’s inspiration to use this energy in its highest form.

4/27. The distance between rational mind and divine mind is shorter today because of Mercury's sextile to Uranus. Stay receptive and you might just have a "Eureka!" moment!
Mercury’s square to Chiron may also boost your urge to edit or refine.

4/28. Steady, productive mental work is supported by today's Mercury-Jupiter trine, with an added boost of inspiration from Mars’ quincunx to Neptune.

4/29. There's a fine line between becoming a container for divine inspiration and zoning out into nonproductive obliviousness – with today's Mercury-Neptune square, straddle it carefully! (Mercury’s sextile to Mars will help energize and focus you.)

4/30. Venus’ entry into Taurus creates a STELLIUM as she joins Mercury and the Sun in the Sign of the Bull. This makes Taurus the strongest astrological energy in the sky (though only until Mercury skeedaddles on into Gemini May 3).
Venus is very much at home in Taurus, one of the two signs that she rules (the other is Libra). While she's here, through May 24, you may find it easier to enjoy The Taurean qualities described in the 4/19 entry.

5/1. I wouldn't usually include a May entry in the April column, but May 1 is when the third and final incarnation (active 4/27-5/6) of this month's GRAND TRINE peaks. This time Venus is in the musical chair recently vacated by Mercury and the Sun. I once again refer you to the 4/18 entry for the Grand Trine’s basic meaning, but what's different now is that – since Venus rules Taurus, and Taurus is a money sign – the business and financial possibilities are especially strong. You can also use this energy to empower and stabilize relationships and creative expression.

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

March 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

Whatever your sun sign, this forecast will help you choose how to best use each month’s astrological energies! Events are most powerful on the dates listed. However, their influence will be active for at least several days before and after. All dates and times are in the U.S. eastern time zone.

While everyone is affected by these global transits, you will be most powerfully impacted when moving planets activate natal planets and other sensitive points in your birth chart.

3/2. With Venus conjunct Chiron, this is a great tweak day for creativity and relationships. Giving or receiving mentoring is also supported.
Creativity gets an additional boost from the Piscean Sun’s quintile to Pluto.

3/4.
Mars executes his post-retrograde entry into Cancer today through May 9 (he was also in Cancer 9/29 thru 12/31), giving drive and energy to the maternal energies of nurturing and healing. One way to use it: pick up the phone and call your mother!

3/5.
Virgos rejoice! The two planets associated with your sign, Mercury and Chiron, conjoin today. This is a great energy for editing and refining, made even better by the intuitive flashes you can receive because of their placement in Aquarius.

3/6.
If someone challenges your self-esteem today, it may have been triggered by today's Venus-Ceres square. However, with the Sun-Jupiter sextile’s sunny vibe, it probably won't bother you too much. In fact, you might be so enraptured by the bliss of divine union or the ecstasy of creative inspiration (VENUS CONJUNCT NEPTUNE) that any intended sleights might not even register!

3/7.
MARS-PLUTO OPPPOSITION. Mars and Pluto both rule Scorpio, which makes for a very intense vibe as they oppose each other today. This is one of astrology's most dangerous pairings, and when not managed well has been associated with volcanic outbursts of rage or violence. But you can do better, by using Pluto's power of transformation and Mars’ initiation ability to start or revitalize something with a major kick-off punch!
Synchronistically, this Mars-Pluto opposition comes on the same day as March's NEW MOON. (New Moons are, by their nature, good times to start something new.) At 18° Pisces, this New Moon’s Sabian Symbol* is, "In a gigantic tent, villagers witness a spectacular performance.” This certainly resonates with the power of Mars-Pluto, and makes this a wonderful energy under which to thrust yourself into the spotlight if you’re so inclined!

3/8. One of my favorite quotes from my astrology mentor, Kelly Lee Phipps, goes something like this: “God would rather see you fail at doing what you really came here to do than see you succeed at someone else's vision." Another great astrologer, Steven Forrest, said that part of Aquarius’ job is to follow their unique path, even if it means disappointing those who love them. Think on that today as the Sun (core of self, vitality and sanity) conjuncts Uranus, the planet of marching to your own drummer. How have you compromised your core needs to please others, and how can you use the powerful energies currently in the air to step more fully onto your own true path?

3/9. Mercury conjunct Neptune -- mind joins with Source. This is a great day to have your own "Conversations with God," particularly with relational Venus also so near. Divine inspiration should also be close at hand for your creative outpourings. Like all planets, Neptune also has a dark side -- delusion, fogginess, deception, and over-idealization -- so be especially careful that no one pulls the wool over your eyes!

3/12. Venus enters Pisces today through 4/5, making it easier to enter into relationship with spirit, be a more open creative channel, and dissolve the boundaries between you and others. This boundary-dissolving effect can make you unusually sensitive, so check out the naturally protective effects of my Divine Saturation Snap Meditation if this becomes a problem.
Venus’ sign change also ends the recent dominance of Aquarian energy in the sky, with three planets each now in Aquarius and Pisces.

3/13. Wouldn't you know it -- Venus gets herself all sensitized by entering Pisces, then has to go and sextile Pluto! Actually, this is a wonderful energy for creating positive transformation in your relationships and creativity, and is also great for deep counseling work.

3/14. Need to get some work done today? You'll get some help from today's "Energizer Bunny" configuration of Mars sextile Saturn.
Mercury also enters Pisces today through 4/2. Not only does this recreate the effects of the recent Mercury-Neptune conjunction (see 3/9), it puts four planets in Pisces -- Mercury, Venus, Uranus and the Sun. This PISCES STELLIUM (three or more planets in the same sign) makes the Sign of the Fishes the strongest astrological energy in the sky through 4/2.

3/15. A MYSTIC RECTANGLE, March’s most powerful aspect pattern, peaks today. This one includes five planets: Virgoan Saturn, Cancerian Mars and Capricornian Pluto each holding down a corner, while Piscean Mercury and Venus huddle up in theirs. Mystic Rectangles are known for ease and flow, since they contain two sextiles and two trines. But the two oppositions give you enough energy to get up and do something with it!
As the name suggests, magical things often occur during this configuration, which lasts from the 10th thru the 18th. Given the planets and signs involved, creativity, relationships and communication are among the easiest areas for this special energy to bless. If you mindfully harnessed the powerful energies of initiation on 3/7, then this Mystic Rectangle could move those projects forward in wonderful ways. But remember that planetary alignments represent opportunities, not guarantees: the more you consciously partner with these archetypal forces, the better your results will be!
Two aspects within the Mystic Rectangle also come exact today. The first is a Mercury-Pluto sextile, which supports powerful, no-nonsense communication that can lead to cathartic healing and transformation.
The other, a VENUS-SATURN OPPOSITION, can challenge relationships to test their staying power, and can also temporarily restrict financial flow. However, since Saturn respects hard work, facing up to whatever weaknesses Saturn exposes in these areas can give you a more solid foundation for the future.

3/16. One of the trines in the Mystic Rectangle, between Venus and Mars, comes exact today. When the classic male and female planets connect so easily, it bodes well for relationships, sexuality and creative expression. (And will be particularly refreshing after yesterday's Venus-Saturn opposition!)

3/17. Today's Mercury-Saturn opposition, yet another Mystic Rectangle component, is especially well set up for Mercury's preferred activities of writing, speaking and teaching. Mercury is especially receptive to divine inspiration in Pisces, and Saturn radiates discipline, structure and attention to detail due to its placement in Virgo. As long as you let the complete creative download come through before you go into tweak mode, this can be an excellent aspect for getting out the work!

3/18. Mars, which trines Mercury today (the next-to-last Mystic Rectangle component we'll be discussing), adds energy to yesterday's Mercury-Saturn opposition. Mercury-Mars aspects have also been known to promote "foot in mouth syndrome," so be sure to think before you speak!

3/20. Welcome back, Spring! Yes, today marks the SPRING EQUINOX as the sun enters Aries -- a great time for us humans to make new beginnings along with nature. Join some fellow revelers in a reawakening ceremony, and seriously consider a physical detox to flush out those accumulated winter toxins!
The day is made even brighter by the magical and inspiring quintile between the Sun and Jupiter, the solar system’s most expansive and inspiring planet.

3/21. What exquisite timing: the day after we enter the year's most powerful time for new beginnings, the Sun squares Pluto, the bringer of transformation! The square, which represents challenge for growth, can feel like an itch that needs to be scratched. So embrace whatever changes need to happen in your life now, especially since resisting them will only bring suffering!
The timing gets even better when you factor in today's FULL MOON at 2° Libra. This is a great time to reevaluate relationships, creative expression, and the presence (or absence) of beauty, harmony and balance in your life. In addition, this Full Moon’s Sabian Symbol is, "The transmutation of the fruits of past experiences into the seed-realizations of the forever creative spirit.” Today's Sun-Pluto square definitely radiates "transmutation," reflecting on "past experiences" is an ideal Full Moon activity, and making adjustments to your ongoing goals definitely plants new seeds of realization. And "forever creative spirit" definitely betokens high-vibration energy!

3/22. A T-SQUARE peaks today, with the Sun’s square to the Mars-Pluto opposition rekindling some of its waning energy. See the 3/7 entry for a refresher on this opposition, and use it on the high side while this T-square is active the 17th thru 25th.

3/23. High enthusiasm (Aries Sun) may hit some kind of roadblock today (quincunx to Saturn). Today's two other aspects (Pluto quintiling both Venus and Mercury) may give a clue on how to get around the obstruction: communicating harmoniously and fairly, but with great underlying power.

3/24. Mercury and Venus -- the final components of the Mystic Rectangle in this month's forecast -- are conjunct today in Pisces. You can use them for harmonious communication, creative writing, dialogue with Spirit, and/or visualizing business success.

3/25-26. Mercury and Venus quintile Ceres on these days. This is a great time to observe how your dominant thoughts affect both your relationships and your self-esteem.

3/27. MERCURY-URANUS CONJUNCTION. Mercury and Uranus have a special relationship: Mercury represents rational thinking, while Uranus throws the lightning bolts of sudden insight. They’re conjunct in the spiritual sign of Pisces today, making it a great time to catch those intuitive flashes and see for yourself why they’re so much more accurate than limited, labored left-brain logic!
Jupiter expands and supports this merging with a sextile to Mercury, which is also good for sales and business activities.

3/28. Venus is right on Mercury’s heels, establishing her own Uranus conjunction and Jupiter sextile today. This makes the time ripe for positive paradigm shifts in relationships and creativity.
Today also marks the peak of a long JUPITER-URANUS SEXTILE, strongest 2/26 thru 6/22 (and returning for an encore throughout November). This aspect energizes the forces behind the Law of Attraction: Uranus is in Pisces (imagination, visualization), while Jupiter is in Capricorn (manifestation, making it real). Thus, this is a powerful time to be holding the vision of that which you desire while doing the physical work to make it happen. (And a good time to remember that worry is a sincere prayer for what you do not want!)
Uranus' involvement is a reminder to not just program from your personality, but to actively listen for the intuitive flashes that will tell you what Spirit would like you to accomplish. Any Jupiter-Uranus aspect can help energize a revolution in your philosophy or spiritual path, and all the energies involved here can help you create a life a little bit more like heaven on earth.

3/29. Ceres enters Gemini today thru 6/10, combining the archetypes of value and information. Good ways to use this include learning more about finance and observing how a thing’s perceived value can shift so much with a simple change of thought.

3/30. The Sun in Aries squares Mars today, broadcasting a strong dose of Pioneer/Warrior energy. With Mars in Cancer, be sure that your efforts to nurture or heal aren't so aggressive that they do more harm than good! It is, however, a powerful day for new beginnings as long as you keep your energy on the high side.

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

February 2008
by Benjamin Bernstein

Whatever your sun sign, this forecast will help you choose how to best use each month’s astrological energies! Events are most powerful on the dates listed. However, their influence will be active for at least several days before and after. All dates and times are in the U.S. eastern time zone.

While everyone is affected by these global transits, you will be most powerfully impacted when moving planets activate natal planets and other sensitive points in your birth chart.

2/1. What luckier way to open the month than with the two classic benefics – Venus and Jupiter – conjoining? Beyond the general vibe of good fortune, this conjunction also speaks of good fortune in relationship, expanded creativity, and – because they're coming together in Capricorn – good financial and business prospects as well. Make hay while the sun shines!

2/2. Turn your mind to meditation or creative receptivity as Mercury conjuncts Neptune today. Rational thought processes can get a bit fuzzy with this combination, so err on the side of intuitive decision-making instead. Since this conjunction is in Aquarius, a flash or two of inspiration isn't out of the question either!

2/4. Venus, still closely conjunct lucky Jupiter (see 2/1), trines Ceres today. Venus and Ceres can both represent things of value – including money and self-esteem – so you have support in both of these areas today!

2/5. Today's Sun-Chiron conjunction gives you the opportunity to shine light into any of the following areas: childhood wounds, mentorship given or received, alternative healing or fine-tuning. Pick any or all!

2/6. Today's ANNULAR SOLAR ECLIPSE (visible in part of Australia, all of New Zealand and most of Antarctica), which is also a NEW MOON, hits at 18° Aquarius today. The New Moon is at 10:43 p.m. US Eastern time, while the eclipse peaks a few minutes later at 10:55 p.m.
New Moon eclipses are much more powerful than ordinary New Moons. Anyone can use this Aquarian New Moon for new beginnings in individuation, humanitarianism and scientific or technical endeavors, or for letting their "freak flag" fly more proudly.
For additional insights into how you can optimize this energy, examine your natal chart to see which house the eclipse is in, and what sensitive points around 18° Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or Scorpio are being affected by it.
The Sun and Mercury also cross paths today. This should help to sharpen up your brain and burn away any mental fog that may have been caused by the Mercury-Neptune conjunction on 2/2!
Finally, today's Venus-Uranus sextile may help open you to fresh insights on how to make relationships more grounded or productive, and/or how to make some money!

2/7. Two completely different aspects give a similar message today. You can use both the Mars-Saturn quintile and the Mercury-Chiron conjunction to give strong, consistent energy to learning, writing, teaching and other forms of communication.

2/10. Ah yes – the annual conjunction of the Sun and Neptune. A magnificent time for dissolving into the union of Divine Bliss, or receiving the creative bounty of the Muse! Focusing in these areas will also keep you from being pulled into Neptune's darker side: negative escapism such as overuse of drugs or alcohol, or zoning out with too much TV, sex, food or Internet!

2/13. imagine one of those flashing signs on the highway lit up with the following message: RELATIONSHIPS & CREATIVITY <blink> ADJUSTMENT REQUIRED. That's the basic message of today's Venus-Mars quincunx. Challenging though this 150° angle can be, it also offers great rewards. If you're able to make the required adjustment, you can create a magical connection with your beloved or your Muse!

2/14. So here it is, the one day of the year specifically devoted to romance (in the USA, at least). And who better to represent Cupid's arrow then the arrow-pointed glyph of Mars? The ruler of Aries also represents the passionate fire of love, and he gains additional energy today from his easy-flowing trine to the Sun. if you successfully negotiated whatever issues might have come up yesterday (see 2/13), you could well be set up for a very passionate Valentine's Day!

2/17. Venus enters Aquarius today through 3/12. It’s a good time to strive for true equality in relationship, as well as experimenting with relationship structures outside the norm. Finding your true, one-of-a-kind creative vision can also be easier during this time.

2/18. MERCURY GOES DIRECT late today at 9:58 p.m. US Eastern time, clearing at least one obstacle to the initiation of major new projects. (To ensure optimal timing of important new initiatives, be sure to consult your astrologer!)
Just to add creative inspiration to whatever you're kicking off, a GOLDEN YOD peaks today. This magical aspect pattern lasts the 16th thru the 19th, and features Mars and Saturn focusing their composite "Energizer Bunny" energy onto Venus. See the 2/17 entry to see what Venusian opportunities the Golden yod is enhancing!

2/19. The Sun enters Pisces at 1:49 a.m. US Eastern time, where it will remain until it enters Aries on March 20. Until then, the Sun radiates the energy of the poet, the mystic and the dreamer. Your ability to access the realms beyond the physical plane -- be they spiritual or creative -- is enhanced. In the grand archetypal scheme, Pisces is the optimal time to receive visions. You can then put them into action under the initiating power of Aries.

2/20. Eclipses typically come in pairs two weeks apart, which is why today's TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE follows so close behind the Solar Eclipse on the 6th. This eclipse, at 2° Virgo, will be visible throughout most of the Americas as well as western Europe. The eclipse is exact at 10:26 p.m. US Eastern time, immediately followed by the FULL MOON at 10:31 p.m.
Full Moons are time to take stock of how you're doing -- in this case, in the areas of service, detail work, health and daily habits. Because of the eclipse, the downstream effects of the adjustments you make now will have unusually powerful ramifications.
For additional insights into how you can optimize this eclipse energy, examine your natal chart to see which house the eclipse is in, and what sensitive points around 2° Virgo, Pisces, Gemini or Sagittarius are being aspected by it.

2/21. It's time for another reality check on relationships and creativity as Venus quincunxes Saturn. With Venus in Aquarius, keep your feelers out for solutions to problems that you haven't tried before!

2/24. It's easy to space out a bit with the Sun in Pisces, but today's Sun-Saturn opposition should help bring you back to Earth. This aspect embodies the energy of the Law of Attraction -- the Sun in Pisces (visualization, imagination) opposing Saturn (physical manifestation) -- so it's a great time to focus on creating the reality you desire. Just be sure to do something -- Saturn supports and energizes hard work, but can weigh you down with melancholy or depression when left unharnessed!

2/26. It's a great day for one-on-one communication with Mercury conjunct Venus. Creative writing and harmonious thinking are also well supported.

The overall "cosmic weather" affecting everyone

It’s All Good Astrology

January 2008

by Benjamin Bernstein

Whatever your sun sign, this forecast will help you choose how to best use each month’s astrological energies! Events are most powerful on the dates listed. However, their influence will be active for at least several days before and after. All dates and times are in the U.S. eastern time zone.

While everyone is affected by these global transits, you will be most powerfully impacted when moving planets activate natal planets and other sensitive points in your birth chart.

1/1. A business-friendly GRAND TRINE peaked yesterday, composed of three planets with financial themes: Saturn, Ceres and the Capricornian Sun. The fact that the Grand Trine is in earth -- the element most associated with business and money -- adds to its power. You can ride this energy to success 12/24 thru 1/6. Not so financially focused? You can still enjoy the Grand Trine’s grounding and stabilizing effect.
NOTE: There’s another business-friendly Grand Trine that lasts all month, and then some! See the 1/21 entry for details.

1/2. Are you feeling lucky? Try not to hear Clint Eastwood saying it, because, with Jupiter quintiling Uranus, it's a real possibility today! Jupiter is the planet most associated with good fortune, Uranus can bring sudden and unexpected events, and the quintile is the angle of magic and divine inspiration. With Jupiter in Capricorn, however, it may take some effort on your part to bring potential blessings into full manifestation.
Great power can be unleashed -- for good or ill -- with today's Mars-Pluto opposition. Rather than giving in to its dark side -- violence, anger, volcanic rage -- you can choose instead to make a powerful and positive new beginning. With Mars in Gemini, energized learning, teaching and writing could all be great choices.

1/6.
A Venus-Saturn square is always good for some relationship challenges. This is never fun, but it is very useful for bringing problems to light so they can be worked through, and it’s also good for identifying relationships that may have outlived their usefulness. Venus also quintiles Neptune today, joining the two most creative planets with the angle of creativity! Possible combined effects of these two Venus aspects include easily receiving intuitive insights that can heal relationship issues and being motivated to work diligently at manifesting your creative visions. It's also a great day to work with the Law of Attraction!
Communication may not be easy today -- not with Mercury in tight-lipped Capricorn quincunxing retrograde Mars in Gemini. Be prepared to make whatever adjustments are necessary to get important conversations started.

1/7.
Mercury enters Aquarius today for an unusually long stay through March 14 (prolonged by its Aquarian retrograde 1/28 through 2/18). This is a time when intuitive flashes can come more easily -- Mercury represents rational mind, while Aquarius represents the instantaneous insights that our limited human brains can receive from omniscient Higher Mind.

1/8.
This month's NEW MOON occurs at 6:37 a.m. U.S. eastern time at 17°33’ Capricorn. It's a great time to set new plans in motion around work, productivity and being recognized for your efforts.

1/9.
The first of two GOLDEN YODS in January peaks today, with quintiling Saturn and Mars both biquintiling Mercury. Golden Yods make it easier to receive divine inspiration and access heightened levels of creativity. In this case, learning, writing, and communicating (Mars in Gemini, Mercury at the Golden Yod’s apex) get the juice, while Saturn in Virgo will help you bring structure to what you're doing. This Golden Yod is active the 8th thru the 11th.

1/11. With Venus sextile Chiron, it's a good time to fine-tune relationships or creativity. It's also a good time to "sit at the feet of the master."

1/12.
I hope you're not too attached to any fine-tuning you did in your relationships or creativity yesterday -- with Venus square Uranus, all bets are off if it's time for a new paradigm shift! Deliberately set aside some quiet time to receive intuitive flashes in these areas, or they may be hard to receive. (Click here for my article on how to channel information from your Higher Self.) And have the courage to act on the intuitive insights you receive, even if you initially resist them.

1/13.
Communication could be little challenging today (Mercury quincunx Saturn), so be willing to make the extra effort to understand and be understood. With that in mind, the energies of two separate aspects (Venus biquintile Ceres, Mars quintile Saturn) indicate that it can be a great time for doing business.

1/16.
Here are three great ways to use today's Venus-Neptune sextile: receive creative inspiration, deepen your relationship with your Higher Self, or deepen a soul-level connection with a physically incarnate being.

1/17.
The annual conjunction of Mercury and Chiron is always a great time for organizing your mind, or the things you've created with it (writing, for example). Because they're coming together in Aquarius, be sure to leave room for the occasional right-brain intuitive flash in the midst of all that left-brain logic!

1/19.
The classic relationship planets (Venus and Mars), come together today in the angle of relationship (the opposition). Under this energy, relationships can be initiated, empowered, adjusted and/or ended. Whichever of these directions you may be leaning in, I would take Mars’ current retrograde into account and reflect carefully before taking action.

1/20.
The Sun enters Aquarius today, radiating the energy of individualism, humanitarianism, genius and "letting your freak flag fly" until it enters Pisces on February 19.

1/21.
A business-friendly and unusually long-lived GRAND TRINE peaks today, at the same time as two of its members, Jupiter and Saturn, make their trine exact. (The third planet is Ceres.) This grand trine lasts from December 31 through February 3.
Why is this Grand Trine is so good for commercial activity? For starters, all three planets are in earth, the element most powerfully associated with business. In addition, all the planets have obvious business associations: Jupiter and Saturn are the workhorses of business astrology, while Ceres carries the Taurean meaning of money earned through your own efforts. Finally, the Grand Trine configuration means that all these energies flow together easily. By applying consistent effort to your business endeavors, even if it doesn't always seem necessary, you can be sure to milk this potentially rewarding energy for all it's worth!

1/22.
January's other GOLDEN YOD peaks today. The back end -- a Saturn-Mars quintile -- is the same as the one that peaked on the 9th, but they’re now sending biquintiles to the Aquarian Sun instead of Mercury. Making time for spirituality and/or creativity should boost your vitality while this Golden Yod is active, especially if you do these things in exactly the way that they best fit you. This Golden Yod is active the 19th thru the 23rd.
        January's
FULL MOON occurs today at 8:35 a.m. U.S. eastern time at 1°54' Leo. Consider how" full-filled" you are in shining your creativity or leadership into the world, as well as how much you're interacting with kids, taking enough time to relax and have fun, and engaging in appropriate levels of calculated risk. Make adjustments as needed.
Mercury conjuncts Neptune today. To whatever degree your thinking seems fuzzy or clouded, the same degree of opportunity exists to receive the flow of intuitive certainty. Bottom line: try to let your Higher Self do the thinking today!

1/24.
It's all about Venus today, as she both conjuncts Pluto and enters Capricorn through February 17. One combined impact of these events can be to transform relationships to make them more productive, or release them altogether if they prove impractical. There are also strong financial possibilities: Venus can stand for money, just as Pluto can represent massive wealth. Put them together in Capricorn -- the sign of doing business -- and the sky's the limit!
This period of enhanced financial opportunity is actually extended, since Venus “carries” Pluto's energy over to Jupiter thru February 1. But, as with all transits, these energies work best when you consciously use them to make something happen!

1/25. PLUTO'S ENTRY INTO CAPRICORN,
which begins today, is probably the most important astrological event of 2008. When Pluto changes signs -- which only happens every 12 to 20 years -- it signals profound transformations in the areas of life which relate to that sign.
Just look at one example of what's happened since Pluto made its prior sign change, entering Sagittarius in 1995. One thing Sagittarius represents is religion. Since 1995, the Catholic Church has weathered a huge scandal involving the sexual abuse of children by priests, and numerous fundamentalist megachurch preachers have been ruined by scandal. (Pluto loves to bring hidden dirty doings out into the light!) In a more positive vein, there has been an ever-accelerating sea change in how more and more people now approach spirituality, abandoning more intellectual or emotional approaches in favor of direct, conscious and transformative union with Spirit.
So what can we expect as Pluto transits Capricorn for the next 16 years? For one thing, even more exposure of the hidden dirty doings of big business – the huge multinationals, in particular. Capricorn also represents the underlying structure of things – it rules the skeleton, for example – and is an earth sign. Thus, Capricorn can represent the core structure of the Earth itself. Pluto, representing death and rebirth, gives a clear and sobering message at this critical moment in history: either humans need to positively restructure how they interact with the global ecosystem, or death and destruction on a cataclysmic scale will result. And there is no guarantee that humans will be among the surviving species.
Heavy stuff, I know, but Capricorn is a no-nonsense, let's-deal-with-the-facts kind of sign, and it is not Pluto's habit to sugarcoat hard truths. Let's just hope that the United States, China and the other major contributors to climate change quickly embrace the radical paradigm shifts needed to ensure that the Earth continues to possess a habitable ecosystem.

1/27.
If you're milking Venus’ financial and business possibilities (see 1/24), then be especially attentive to any flashes of inspiration as Venus quintiles Uranus today. Otherwise, Uranus' intuitive flashes are more likely to contain insights related to creativity or relationships.

1/28.
MERCURY RETROGRADE. Mercury is back (and backing) for a three-week retrograde, lasting from 3:31 p.m. U.S. eastern time today (around 24° Aquarius) until 9:58 p.m. on 2/18, where The Trickster shifts into drive again (around 8° Aquarius). As always, communications, technology and travel are more prone to glitches during this time, and it's best not to start major new projects if you can avoid it. You can use this time positively by reflecting on how well you're fulfilling your core needs, reassessing your technological tools, and meditating on how you can contribute more to the common good.

1/29.
It's nice to have a transit once in a while that specifically about stabilizing relationships! That's a great way to use today's Venus-Saturn trine. Creative types can also use it to groove into some consistent productivity.

1/30. MARS GOES DIRECT
today, finishing a two-and-a-half-month retrograde that started on 11/15. Taken in isolation, this represents a green light to kick into gear with all the plans you've been cooking up since mid-November. Personally, however, I'd wait at least until 2/19 when Mercury is direct again!
